I knew this would be fun. Most of you guys have no clue.
I don't want my car to run deep into the 8's. 1400hp and only 12's ha think again. Theres one at my local drag strip that doesnt have that much hp and runs deep into the 9's and its not tubbed or anything, just running a 10.5 slick. He drives it there and back and spanks almost all the sport bikes out there. And its quite as a mouse. Seriously you cant hear it running until he stages it. It doesnt have a body kit or a wing or decals all over it. I think you guys are stuck on the F&F stuff a little toooooo much. Theres also another Supra that set a new world record and its a full stock bodied car, it ran in the 7's.
Putting the 2JZ engine in wont cost anymore (probably cheaper) than building the 250 with the new head, Forged internals, EFI, Turbo and all that.

Im going to do it! I really dont care what anyone else thinks about it. I will have building it and driving it! And dont worry when I get started I wont be all secretive like Chris I will post pics everyday :evilsmile
IM thinking too Lambo style doors might be cool...

I hang out here too so apparently I love Maverick and Comets as well. What's your point?
Just because I would like something different to power my car doesnt mean I care for my car any less than someone else. And I didnt know just because I like Mavericks that your not supposed to like anything else. I mean let's face it, a 170-250 is no power house, are they good engines...yes. But why do so many people toss them for a 302? Great for you if you want some run of the mill 302 powering your Mav but too me thats just boring. EVERYONES done that!
I don't expect everyone to like it nor do I care really. There just seems to be a bad stigma attached to imports that isn't really deserved. Like I said before no one really barks at a guy for wanting to drop a 4.6 DOHC engine in his Mav, why?.... because its a Ford. Well...not really, being as the most desirable blocks are the TEKSID blocks cast in Italy by the same company that make blocks for Ferrari, that makes them import engines does it not?
I guess IM a Car Guy not just a Maverickeer. I like different and I like a challenge. Stock is boring to me and so is doing the same thing over and over. When Ford comes out with a more interesting engine then I will reconsider. But for now import it is:yup:

I've thought about getting a four-door Mav and putting a 4 cyl diesel of some type in the car. It would be nice to have the look of a Mav and get 50 mpg for a daily driver. However, that project is after finishing the '77 for my daughter, finishing the '73 for my hot street car, and finishing my '70 all-out drag car. I might get to that diesel project in about 3-4 years which, might be good because I'm hearing about newer, cleaner burning, more effieicent diesels on the drawing boards of a lot of manufacturers.

im a fan of celicas so i have no problem agreeing that a 2jzgte would be cool or even if you turned it into toyotas monster block by boring and all that junk. after going to this last car show in fairview oklahoma and seeing the camaro that had a z06 motor with a 6 speed it makes me wonder. motor not really but the six speed sounds intresting

I would never do it(mostly cuz I'm cheap & techno challenged)but some sort of I6 swap(Toyota,Nissan,BMW,etc)would be neat I guess...

I did it cause I like the six and it's different. It's imported, just not from Japan and it's Ford to boot. The Aussie six runs great and it's basically stock. Building one that's gonna be a little hotter. But don't let people tell you building a six is cheaper. Actually cost a little more...

Funny I just seen this thread the other day while doing some searches and here it is AGAIN! It has a weird life cycle and must awaken from hibernation every 5-6 months too get beat on before returning to it's sleep.
Can we vote this as the longest lived thread?

Since Mazda is a Ford, is anyone gonna try to put a Rotary in a Mav?

Derrick, a TOYODER? They do make a good looking DOHC 6..... And there wont be any oil on the intake manifold

I own a Kawasaki bike, so, I can't exactly entirely hate on imports... but I've never heard of Japanese imports turning 6's in the 1/4. Domestics, on the other hand, every day (NHRA races). So, why put something of so much hassle and such small potential in your car? Correct me if I'm wrong about anything in this particular post.

Build me an import motor for $10k and a domestic V-8 for the same, and we'll see which one moves your car better :) .
