I have access to a small block c-6 tansmission. I'm wondering if it will fit under the hump of my 71 302 automatic.

C6 also sucks up alot of your horsepower and fuel economy before it ever gets to the ground.
C4 is much more effiecient of a tranny.
Much less parasitic loss with a C4.

    Nope wont fit as mentioned
a C6 is very impractical in these cars as they are light enough weight that they dont need the added strength of a C6.

Plus as mentioned above they rob more horsepower... about 65 more horsepower and a C4 can be built to hold just as much as a stock C6

I still find it odd that a small block C6 won't fit but my big block C6 does......Did I mention that my Big block C6 has a much larger bell, and my transmission tunnel is original, as is my firewall.

Yes M II front end. But everyone always says that the c6 will not fit in the tunnel.

I think that carries through the community because there is alot of discussion about it not fitting the 70 model tunnel.
So the idea it doesn't fit is just transfered to all year models.

That said, with an M2 front end and custom engine mounting (and surely custom crossmember), you had the added benefit of mounting the engine where it fit best.

Bottom line, C6 behind any SBF is overkill and more trouble than it is worth.
Nowadays, many FAST BBFs run superbells and C4s, so it is argueable that such a small car needs a C6 even with a big block!

It's pretty simple math to me........how much money do you want to spend. I like my money:huh: and for the Record I build my own.

I'm still planning on using a c6 behind mine,....cost is a big factor, as well as longevity. yeah a c4 can be built to take big hp , but a c6 can be built to take it a whole lot cheaper . and in my opinion(facts could very well prove otherwise) I feel a built c6 can take more torque and last longer as well.

Are you buildng your own trannies?

Because I can have a built C4 to handle close to 500ish HP for around 150 bucks.. and thats including fresh fluid.

a C6 can handle more torque I assume... but considering I can get a C4 from a junkyard, clean it up, have it built to hold all the power I can make for less than $200 I think I'll have to go that way.

Course, I can do the same for a C6.. but itd be around 250 as Id buy a shift kit for it. My builder does his own shift kits for C4s and work really well
