As long as you are using floor shift, 6901 Hookers will be the majority answer around here.

Yes I was but not anymore!

I'm putting the 408 stroker in a 1964 falcon sprint and putting the 289 in the comet. The comet will be completely done in about a month and the falcon completely done in about 3 months. The falcon gets media blasted on tuesday and I already have the hedits front suspension for the car.

What I found really interesting is the falcon engine bay is bigger than the comet's but I am still going with the independent front suspension with the falcon. I have just about all the parts for the falcon except for some little stuff. Anyway, I am very happy with the decision. :)

The Hedman 88300's I just installed on the 331 in the 77 Comet, (Canfield heads with raised by 1/2" ports) went in like butter. I'm also biased against Hookers after dealing with their's in a 67 Big block Stang.:hide: :D

    column shift?

What if you are trying to keep the column shifted automatic? We are looking at swapping in an AOD and keeping the column shifter...

The 6901's hang pretty low but do not have to be dinged up. I would like to find a header that is tighter to the floor.

Yeah, but their shorties... why bother? Except for looks, of course.

There have been threads in the past on how to mod your shifter linkage to fit with 6901s.
There is a single rod that needs bent or cut and welded at a different angle... I have read threads on both methods being done.
Without this mod though, there are no long tubes that fit with column shift.

    Edit:
    I just had a thought...
Why don't column shift guys just convert their linkage to a cable?
All that would be needed is to fab a bracket to secure the cable next to the tab that moves when you shift the column.
If you were to scare up a used bracket for a C4 cable shifter, and get a replacement cable, that would be everything.

Cuz he's got a column shift car and if he wants to "hack up" his linkage to work with the LT's then why not just put a floor shifter on the car a forget about it. Most guys want to keep the factory appearance.

I personally think that the diffrence on a street car between long tubes and short tubes is minimal. I have verified gains of 10-15 hp with shorties on various makes and models. Where are the gains? Down in a usable rpm range for a street car, 2500rpm or so. Kinda blows that upper rpm gain outa the water, don't it?

    Another reason...
Long tubes tend to drag on the ground everywhere if you lower your car. Trust me :) .
