info Sounds like some good information... we are trying to keep the car as stock appearing as possible, while giving it some updates. Interior and exterior will be pretty much stock appearing, the engine will probably be a late model roller cam 302 converted to carb. Edelbrock intake with the casting marks ground and painted to match the engine. I will probably keep the serpentine belt and modern A/C compressor, not sure about adding power steering or brakes. I am building this one for my wife as her first vintage car to do cruises with my and my Fairlane. Hers will be less radical, more of a driver. I have a couple of spare 9 inch rears, figure on around a 3.50 gear and limited slip, mildly built AOD with a converter and kit... just something fun. I will probably upgrade the suspension, I have already worked on the brakes some... everything is just on hold while she goes back to school and finishes another degree. The car is currently perfectly running with it's original 53,000 mile drivetrain (200/C4), so she may drive it once a month just to stay interested! As far as shorties, I used long tubes on my 9 second Fox street/strip car, and they always end up being a pain to do any maintenance with, so I will really consider the shorties for her car!
I ran 1 1/2" Street Rod shorty headers (engine location moved) with 2 1/4 head pipes 'Open' @ the X-Member for a few years on my Comet, 302 CID, 10:1 compression, 650 DP Holley, 256 @ .050 duration 500 lift solid lift cam, stock heads I ported and installed 351W valves, blah blah blah and ran a best of 11.69 (6500 RPM shift points). I thought I'd gain by going with a 1 5/8" long tube 'Open' header so I installed the 88300 Hedman Hedder..........No Loss No Gain:16suspect BUT sure sounds better. If I were building a street car with a small CID engine I would use the shorty headers
As someone stated, all you have to do is modify the linkage. I ordered both and like the 6901's better. I do not forsee any issues with plugs, ground clearance or anything. I got the Jet Hot ones. I plan on modifying my linkage to keep the column shift. It's totally OG and will look good in my car.
headers If I went ahead and swapped in a complete 5.0 with power steering and air with a set of standard exhaust port/spark plug location heads? How do the late model brackets and power steering fit with these headers?
