Yeah, I'm not sure if needs rebuilding or not. I don't want to buy it and have it turn into a major problem down the road... I'm thinking about taking the van for a test drive and drive the living hell out of it to see if it works well and what that noise actually is.

Because I haven't actually measured the distance between the two spring perches, I cannot say that I know if it fits or not.

Again, I doubt it will be a perfect swap, which is why I said,

"I have no idea if it was a direct swap or not (I doubt it)."

    :yup:

A Van rear is about a foot wider than a Maverick rear. So, no, it ain't gonna bolt right in. It can be narrowed to fit.

Ok, I took the van for a test drive today. Tranny shifts great, motor runs good but carb is shot. Tranny does NOT make any wierd noise that I can tell.

So, as far as I can see, it's "gung ho" with the AOD.(y) I was quoted $150 for motor and transmission. The only problem w/ the motor is that it leaks oil around the valve covers. No big deal, easy fix. Carb, different story. I'm definitely going to get a new one. There was a 2-barrel Holley carb I was looking at that seemed great. However, I do not remember the price, nor the number:hmmm:. Although, I think is around $180.

I do still have one question: What about the tranny mount? I saw how someone fabricated their own. I do have a welder and plenty of steel.

Also, while I'm thinking of these things, when I get the motor, without rebuilding it, what can I do to it to keep it in good running condition? New seals? Gaskets?

Holley makes two, two barrel carbs, the 350 and a 500 cfm. The 350 is a stock replacement for the Autolite 2100, the 500 is the power of a 4 bbl in a 2 bbl package. Great carb, I've had three in the last 30 years.

You will need a "double hump " crossmember, which means both ends point up, like one end of a single hump does. Autokrafters sells an aftermarket version, or you can find a used one in a v8 Maverick or Comet or a 77 thru 80 Granada or Monarc. As for the mount itself, I think it is positioned a little further back on an AOD than a C4, so you will have to have some kind of extension on there. Ask Frank [71 gold ] for sure, he has one in his car.

If the Econoline 9" is the one with the off centered chunk, you can have it narrowed on the long side to match the short side. Old shade tree drag racin' trick way to get a narrowed rear without having to spend big bucks. Also, it will probably have the large bolt pattern, you will have to have the axles redrilled for the Mave small pattern.

I looked those two carbs up and they won't work with an AOD transmission. Is there one that will?

They can be used with an AOD, the 4 bbl can be made to work, the 2 bbl has the same linkage arm. The TV cable needs to be connected so that it's the same distance from the pivot point as the throttle cable, then it will possibly need to be adjusted to function correctly. You can contact Holley for instructions or some one else here may know more.

Ok, let me get this straight... I need the frame mounts for a 302, and the motor mounts w/ insulator, correct?
