i'd put the 302 in. no sense in putting a lot of money in the 250 and then still want more.:)

yea, it wouldn't be worth it, you can drop in the 302 and it's a 100 hp increase pretty much...than u put some money into the 302 (headers, cam...etc) and i think you'll be happy

Hmm...the quickest way to power from streetlight to streetlight is nitrous. It won't effect mileage unless you are using it. Now for everyday driving it's not going to get you anything, but if you just want to occasionally run it at the strip or do a burnout in a parking lot with no one around then that's the way to go.

You can put an adapter on the intake and switch to a progressive linkage two barrel carb, headers and more rear end gears. that will total to about 25 to 50 HP increase. To get any real power from the six it gets expensive. A belt driven Paxton supercharger blowing through a Holley two barrel on a machined manifold and adapter, coated headers, dual exhaust will get you some real power but to do it you should run forged pistons, "H" beam rods and a steel crank. You have to put in a cam, lifters, adjustable rockers, a lot of head work, to make it all work as it should. Gas milage only changes when you put your foot in it but it costs cubic dollars to do all that. Nitrous is easier - hides better but you still need to do all the internal mods to keep the engine alive and nitrous is only good for short bursts of power. You could run a turbo but the setup requires the same internal mods if you are going to push it for horse power gains and a turbo typically lasts 60000 miles and then its $600 or more to repair or replace it. I like the IDEA of a hot six but the practical limitations are gigantic.
The cheapest way to add 100 HP is a mild built 302 swap and it is less money than a Paxton setup which is the cheapest "full time" power gain.
(Nitrous is part time in my book)

    302...without a doubt

I gotta agree Paul. But if he's just looking for the short burst a small nitrous system will do the trick without breaking the bank. If he doesn't go over 100 hp adder the stock internals should hold up.

I vote for keeping the six in it. Just because I like it. Put a mild cam, progressive two barrel, header and dual exhaust and 3.50 to 3.75 rear gears. It will never be a V8 but it will surprise a few of them!
