Does anyone know if a 351W and C4 can be installed in the car as a unit? In the past I always put the engine in and then installed the trans. from below, but it seems that it would be easier if they can be put in as a unit. Thanks for any help. Lee "THE MAV" Richart

Should go in as a unit fine, but you may have to leave the hoist on and install the headers, if used, before lowering onto the mount's. Did you modify the tower's to help the clearance problem's etc. ?
Thanks for the reply. No, I didn't modify the towers, I massaged the headers instead. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
I always remove and install as a unit. Just get a decent load leveler for your hoist and it is far easier. I usually just remove the tranny with an impact gun on the tailgate of my truck after pulling the assembly.
i guess this is posted 2x as i replied to the other. yep, that's what i used to do with my 351w when i had it.
I join the bandwagon! Yep. I do all my Mavericks that way... 302 or 351. You have to put the hood all the way up. Further than it will go with just the prop rod. I usually get something like a broom stick to hold it as far back as it goes. I shove it down behind the driver's shock tower so it's out of the way. When you do this without removing the hood, you just have to get the hoist just right. If you have too much chain between the hoist and engine, the hoist will hit your hood as you push the engine back. Gotta hook close to the engine. I have never used a leveler. May make it easier... I usually have to let the tranny point down, then manually lift the tailshaft over the rad support and let it back down easy into the engine bay.
You guys were all right. Just get it tilted right and it goes right in. We did it Saturday and got the engine running last night. Purrs like a kitten or lion or something. Thanks again for the help. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
LET THE AIR OUT OF THE FRONT TIRES to lower the car and make it easier. Also buy the solid billet transmission mount for the C4 from PRO 5.0 (908)241-4336 its like $19.00 and comes in 2 pieces. Makes it easier to install after sliding the engine and tranny in together.
OH also put your spark plugs in before install, better than doing them later. (especially when you are dealing with the 351w)
