I mocked up my new electric fan tonight and found I could go on either side of the radiator w/o issues. I like the idea of "hiding" it on the outside like Dennis did, but wanted to get the most cooling from it as possible. So, what works best? Pulling or pushing.
try whichever you like best. if it cools enough leave it there. if not try the other. usually a puller fan is more efficient.
In all the fans I have used, I opted for puller due to the noise the fan makes...of course, this depends on the shape of the blades. I think...THINK...straight blades will be quieter as pusher/puller, where curved blades are made to run a specific direction, and will be louder going the "wrong" way. I had a puller installed as a pusher once, and it sounded like an airplane going down the road...
i always thought that if the fan is on the outside of the car, and the air rushing through the fan blades will push the blades the opposite way that they spin, therefore slowing the fan blades down, it would make them not very efficient.....but at highway speed, the air rishing is just fine vs a fan anyways.. every car i have seen with a fan, has the fan on the inside of the radiator, pulling the air through... it comes that way from the factories... so it must be the correct way to do it
I have always heard that puller is more efficient, however, logically I dont see the difference. Fact is, fan blades are designed to turn in one direction to be most efficient. Making something universal is always a trade off. Since the majority of people hook them up as a puller, probably because thats the easiest way to do it, I'd say the fan is designed to be most efficient in that direction. I'd bet thats the reason for the difference. I believe a fan could be just as efficient as a pusher if it was designed to run that way. Just my thoughts.
