So I installed a B&M Starshifter in the glorious Comet last weekend and now my battery stays drained. It will not keep a charge.

    WTF?

Where did I touch a wire? Is there a switch that is ON now with the column linkage disconnected?

Unlikely, but maybe the battery drained after the indoor light stayed on for too long?? on my car if the doors are open the overhead light stays on and my battery is weak to begin with so it drains it.

I jumped it and idled for about 5 minutes but now it's dead again.

Getting irritated. Electronical troubles are what killed my Ranchero.

might be your alternator. And if your battery is completely dead I doubt that idling is gonna charge it again. Any way you can have them test the alternator and battery?

Sounds like your alternator to me. And I've gotta ask, what is so glorious about your car? :)

Sounds like battery to me, not alternator.

The battery/alternator both could be the culprit, just idling it for 5 minutes usually will not charge a battery.
Do you have a battery charger? if so charge it overnite and see what it does.

Secondly... loosen the positve cable on your battery, jumpstart it and let it run, then remove the positive cable. If it dies... its the alternator, if not its the battery.

And what's not glorious about the car? Its a nice looking car. Prob glorious to him.

Maybe im wrong... i always pulled the positive one tho.

Even if you pull the ground cable, its still grounded elsewhere

My Comet is glorious because it's
    A: a Comet
    B: mine
    C: paid for

The alternator is spanking new(less than 6 months). I replaced it the first week I was graced with Comet ownership. I think the battery is screwed up.

I have a carshow next weekend so this sucks. $40 is a lot to me but I have to have a new battery I guess.

While this may work on older cars I just want to point out this will cause a huge voltage spike that will ruin stuff on newer cars. be careful.

I've heard that also, but have done it on several newer cars and worked out. They were my own vehicles, not others so it would have been my fault if it happend.

Your lucky if you can get a battery for $40 btw...
Jump start the car, drive it to a parts store and have both tested, this way you dont buy something you dont need
