i know this was a subject a while back so i thought id share my own discoveries

(my basment bathroom has the best lighting:rolleyes:)

heres stock 68 lights bolted right onto a maverick

alot of people complained that with the grills it sticks out too far. but the backing to the light is still just as thick without the grills. so removing the grills will still stick the lense out just as far

i also discovered that the grills are what holds the lense to the backing area. without the grill its just sitting there loose

i think this is starting to look like the best idea...

removing the backing all together since thats the part that really sticks out the furthest and using the grills to hold the lense right to the tail panel

that would seem to solve the sticking out part but the grills are still there. im not sure what to do if one just wanted a shelby looking tail light.

fell free to add your 2 cents into the mix(y)

i would kinda like to have a shelby-looking tail light myself but the cougar lights dont seem like the best starting point. but since i have a set on hand i thought id examine the possibilities without destoying their resale value:yup:

Is it possible to mount the light housing on the inside of the trunk and lens and grill on the outside?

I think you are onto something here. While you are at it, just make a new backer loaded with LEDs. Mega-sequential taillights (programmable!) (y)

The other stuff in the bathroom makes sense ... soap to clean the bleeding wound, Listerine to disinfect it, and band-aids to finish with.

On the other hand ... playing with diecast cars in the bathroom, I'm not going to ask about that...

Hmm... that could come in handy. I'd have to program it to say things like "GET OFF MY A$$ MORON!", or maybe "HAHA YOU LOSE!". I bet someone good with electronics could figure out a way to make it scroll the messages across the tail lights. Could you imagine that... that would be great. :biglaugh:

i never even thought to cut out the tail panel and puch it through, hmmmm

if i had an extra one i'd probably try it but i dont know if i want to make those kinda cuts into my car.

i guess actually useing the tail panel to retain the lense with out the grills would look good but i still think it would need some kind or bezle around the outside to make it look right.

one last thing...mustang project has sequential tailights that fit mustangs (shelby style).. thin tailight...led's....only problem..500 bucks..that's alot of dough for lights..I knew a guy who had a switch to shutoff his tailghts for quick getaways...a long time ago

Reminds me of the guy they had on TV, Real Police Videos. Cops were chasing a drunk driver after dark who had his lights turned off. But every time he made a turn he used his turn signals. They followed him all the way to his driveway.
