I did a search, seemed like I seen simalar post but couldn't find it. I know some of you are way up there, Mine has 216,000 miles, heads never been off it, still cranks right up and runs great. I drove it to work this morning 70 mph for @ 15 miles on interstate. I is starting to smoke a little out of left exhaust, rebiult complete frontend @ 160,000 miles, still drive it with one hand, who has the highest miles on their Maverick/Comet?
All of my Mavericks have been low milage cars, but I did own a 68' Mustang that had close to 300K miles on the original stock 200 engine. That's the car I traded for the 77' Maverick I own now. That little 6 cylinder engine had never been rebuilt, but towards the end it was running on about 4 cylinders. One cylinder was dead, the other was just about dead and it had blow-by something terrible. All in all, that car still got me to work everyday, even if it could'nt make it up a hill without a good running start. Ford's 6 cylinder engines are tough little buggers.
Fred Kilkullen's 70 Grabber has 264,000 on it, I believe the only engine work has been a valve job. A lot of the lower half of it has rusted away from the winter salt. He still starts it up once in a while, but he has a couple more now so it's not getting many miles right now. He said he pulled a popup camper behind it with his family on vacations. Believe it's got that mighty 200 ci in it.
when i bought my car it said 97,xxx. not it says 10,xxx. i have no idea how many other times its been rolled over tho
My Sprint had a little over 180K and never had a problem with it other than routine maintenance. I pulled the 6 out and dropped in a 302 from a 71 Comet and put another 28K miles on it before I parked it for a spell.
Mine will never make that, oil presure drops to @ 5lbs at idle when warm and only @ 25lbs on the highway!
My Dad had a 351 in a pickup truck that was somewhere around that, the guage actually wouldn't register the pressure at idle it was so low and at highway speed it was around 20psi and he pulled his camper with it for a year like that, thensold the truck and my cousin drove the darn this for probably 5-6 years without doing any engine work to it and the engine was still running when she got rid of it, but the body had rusted away.
My dad's '71 Comet GT had around 350k when it was totally stripped and rebuilt. The original 302 had been replaced at around 320k. It still ran fine, it was just tired and smoked. We still have that original 302 put up in storage. My '73 4 door rolled over 316,000 when I was driving it to NC to part it out. Original 250 in it had never been apart, still ran smooth but smoked bad. The guy I got it from was in the air force and had been driving the car daily since the early 80's when his parents, who bought it new, gave it to him. The car was driven all over the country when he was stationed at different bases over the years. It was used to deliver mail in it's last few years on the road. They quit driving it because a rear axle bearing went out. My '74 Grabber had 201,000 when I wrecked it. I rebuilt the top end at 191,000. The 250 out of it ran to 254,000. I believe it burned a valve, haven't pulled it apart yet to see why it started running real bad. I'm pretty sure my '72 daily driver has been around twice judging by the title. So that would be 283,000. It's on it's third engine and trans, and second rear end.
