It has come to my attention that someone has tried to hack/login to another member's account. This is something that I do no take lightly and have permanently banned members(even a supporting member) for doing this in the past.

After five incorrect login attempts, the member's account gets locked and the following email is dispatched:

Everyone on the Internet has an IP address and it leaves a trace of where they have been. I can associate an IP address to a member profile but in this case, the IP address was from AOL and they share addresses. As a result, I could not make a direct match, but the particulars of this incident make me believe it was done by someone who frequents the forum.

I do not take hacking lightly, even if its a joke. If a member is caught, I will ban them permanetly.

Thanks for watching for this Stefan. I agree completely with the consequences. If one of the members would do this, then they have no right to be on the board anymore. Sorry you couldn't find out who they were.

    I've had a few
I've gotten that message before... Fortunately, the offending member was caught and banned in that case. Sorry to hear you can't pinpoint them this time.

It also makes you stop and think about your password. Even though I was lucky and they couldn't figure my password out, I decided to change it anyway and came up with a password that would be basically impossible for anyone to just randomly guess. So if your password is something relatively easy to guess, especially Maverick/Comet related, it would be a good idea to think about changing it. I know I never dreamed someone would try to hack my account.

Isn't that true if they only log in from the same internet connection everytime? Just curious; not looking for a way around it. ;)

I applaud the effort Stefan. Only a maniacal doofenhiemer would do such and we don't those anyway.:thumbs2:

Yes. However, the hacker may go across town to an Internet cafe thinking that they may not be traced. Unbeknownst to the hacker, the Internet cafe and hacker may use the same ISP and as a result, the IP addresses will be similar.
