well i have a mav with a comet front clip and it has the mav tail panel with the rige.i dont want to cut up such a solid car to change the tail panel to comet.but i dont like the simple mav taillighs.i like the comet ones but they dont look right on the mav tailpanel. eny ideas? i like the 73 stang lights but i still want that 4 lens look of the comet
I like the bobcats, but they are difficult to find. All you have to do is drill one extra hole on each side to mount them. I also like the Cougar lights. Several guys have them, Rayzorsharp and fan2488 off the top of my head. fan2488 cut off all the ribs, if I am not mistaken. Again, probably not the simplest items to find in the local junk yard, but shouldn't be too difficult to install.
And of course, the bobcats...even though I am still fighting with a color scheme to go with them... I think the only downfall with the maverick tail lights is that they leave too much "blank space" on that flat panel, so anything that fills in some of that space should look better.
i like the bobcats myself ive got a set of 67-68 cougar tail lights just collecting dust if you decide to go with them. they can easily be converted to look like 67 shelby mustang tail lights too which i think would look better. much more involved then the bobcats but i think it would be worth it
Do it youself? I was considering just making mine flush mount, do away with the trim and all, remove the gas cap, (I can't put my maverick gas cap on where I live or someone would steal it or all my gas! I still have $2 a gallon gas in it!). Just smooth red plexi, lexan, or the like, then converting them to LED, maybe color code them to the back panel. But I have a 4 door, disc break, 302, not very collectible so I am going to go smooth and slick. I am going to make it look something like this image, and here is waht I started with. (This isn't the finished drawing)
i have two suggestions: 67 caprice or impala (Mavoholic has them on his sprint) 66 Catalina (seen Here)
I have always liked 67 GTO tail lights. I think they would look great set into the back panel on a customized Maverick. I think this picture of a GTO tail panel illustrates the idea better than a picture of some loose tail lights. The taillights are installed behind the panel. I have never measured these in person, but I am betting that they would fit into the large inset in the back. They also are probably bigger than the ridge in the middle, so that might need to be trimmed and stepped down so that it is flush to the panel as it approaches the lights. I think a lot of folks would have a very hard time figuring out where the lights came from if swapped onto a Mav. BTW, this picture is from an eBay ad that sells reproduction tail panels. I think this piece was $289.
