I have a 70 Maverick with a i6 and I have no way of knowing if it's a 200 or 250. Any suggestions? thanks
i dont think 70s had 250s as an engine option just 170s and 200 that year, i think... but look at the starter. if its next to the oil pan its a 250. if its above the oil pan next to the block its a 170-200 if you want to post the vin we can atleast tell you what the car originally came with
Thanks. I found out it's a 250.... All this time I thought it was a 200 just because of the air cleaner decal, but today i went to get a carb gasket for a 200 and it was too small, and a 250 fit. And now what you told me just proved it.
That just means someone either changed the head, or changed the carb spacer itself, not that the entire engine was changed. A gasket for a 200 won't fit my 200 either, because I changed the carb spacer and am running a RBS carb off a 250... but the engine in my car is a 200. A 250 will have 4 bolts holding the water pump on, where as a 170 or 200 will have three.
