It came from the factory without carpet as well! It sure looks like that car was factory purple. Very interesting!
With that 6 digit DSO code it was definitely a Special Order car. Short Story---I restored a 1966 Mustang in 1982 with a 6 digit code...this car did not have a paint code stamped on the door plate. It was factory pink...very rare color for 66 Mustangs. (Not Playboy pink that you see on some 67 and later Mustangs...was more pale) It was a promotional car (1 of 50) that was given away at gas stations (I believe in Colorado). Everytime you filled up your name was put in a raffle. The people that won the car are the same people that I restored it for so they were able to back up all the info. I had the hardest time finding the paint formula for this car back then. Didn't have the color matching techniques they have now in 1982. It turned out after looking through thousands of paint chips at that time that the color was stolen from JEEP!!! Can you believe that? And the Jeep color was for 1966. The chip I found matched the unfaded parts of the Mustang perfectly. I'm convinced to this day that the people responsible whoever he/she was picked this color. I have seen 2 other 66 Mustangs since then in shows with this color but never again on anything else. Anyway, knowing that, I believe this car could have been painted ANY color and not necessarily a Ford color. I'm very curious to find out more about this Maverick color. Could be the same color they used on some of the Mopars of that era.
Well, you could remove one of the door sill plates and see what color is underneath. Could also lift up the rubber matt to see if it truly is purple under there. If you look at the doors they look both purple on the inside. That truly would be a unique car. - Matt
here are the factory colors for a 71 Maverick. No purple that I can see. Must be special if it's original. http://www.maverickcolor.com/chips/71ford.jpg
Man, imagine a Purple Grabber with white bucket interior, floor shift, a/c, V-8, with white stripes. Wow
Mike (yellow75) has the Blue 72 with the mat and floor shift. His is a bucket seat deluxe interior car. Another Oregon car.
71 jetta You might try to remove the upper door rubber to see the true color of your car . When I repainted mine the color under the rubber was a very close match . jay
My 72 mav is a 6 digit dso car also.Had a rubber matt delux bucket seat interrior in black ruffino/corinthian vinyl with a 302 and a 3 spd stick on the floor. As for the color its not listed on the tag but its a factory color. Its that metallic bronze looking color, forgot what its called...Came out of the KC plant was sold at a dealership in seattle Washington as well...
Take The Front Seat Out....and Take A Picture Of The "bare" Floorboard For Us.....if It Has Front Braces ...it Was A Factory Bucket Seat Car.
Thanks for all the info everyone. I just got home from work, and I plan on going out and doing a few of the things mentioned to it. (Although, removing the seat will have to wait till a day off. haha). And i did order a Marti report, last night. so i'm just waiting on it to be sent now. I'll post what i find (if anything) in an hour or two. Thanks
Sounds very rare and unique....you will probably find from your Marti Report that your car is 1 of 1 with that paint and trim code!! it will be intresting...the only part that sucks is waiting for the Marti report!! all that anticipation!!!
