I talked about cutting out my cowl grills and filling them in for a while now. After seeing Spillman's painted filled-in-vent cowl and talking with Soooulpower about alternate washer sprayers, I decided to just "do it". So I did it. Now I just got 1 more thing half completed.
Nothing else to do today. Just killing time waiting for Hurricane Hanna to start filling up my basement.
I had a thought (please stop laughing and put the fire extinguisher down)... but has anyone thought about putting on a scoop like they do on the jeeps, http://www.jcwhitney.com/AIR-SCOOP/GP_2006521_N_111+200728827+600002525_10101.jcw they actually help the airflow with those worthless little boxes they call heaters and AC units.....:16suspect

ive thought about doing a scoop like that but the way one of the wiper arms lands right in the middle of one of the vents it seemed like it would be alot of hassle to fit and rearange the wiper the 2nd attachment kinda chows what im talking about
As you can see by the photos, my cowls leak and over the years rotted my floors. The cowl vents are rotted through, in spots, but not as bad as on some cars where they are gone completely. I don't plan on running this in the rain much when it is finished so I am going to repair the cowl vents using Rust Bullet and fiberglass. Covering up the grills should take care of 90% of any water ever getting back in. My thought for getting fresh air back into the cowl is possibly using those pre-formed Nascar brake duct scoops, mounted somewhere where crap from the tires won't get in them. 3 inch flexible duct tubing (like the stuff dryer vent hose is made of) will then run air back to the cowls, maybe under the fenders somewhere. I haven't figured out where everything will mount yet but that is my idea right now.

what is the purpose of getting the ...fresh air back into the cowl...i closed off my ...cowl vents...and my ...heater and A/C ...work 200 percent better. even with the...fresh air vents...under the dash...you have to drop a window down for them to work... I did mine off the... Got a leaky cowl vent?? glued not welded if nothing else...read the last line... ... / ... Attached Thumbnails
I built my garage only 3 years ago and it was the best thing that I could have done. I've owned my Maverick for 19 years now and up until the garage came to be, I would work from April until October, outside in a gravel driveway, when the weather was nice. It seemed that any progress that I made in nice weather always became undone during the winters. Rust, chipmunks, mice, bird crap and even some moss growing on the rockers just kept setting me back. It must have been 10 years ago, I just gave up until the garage was built. The years it sat outside, I bet you 50 people stopped and wanted to buy it. I almost sold it a few times - I'm glad now that I didn't.
Very nice job, Frank. I remember that I saved all of those photos back when you did your cowl vent delete. I'm just wondering when your defroster is pushing warm air at your windshield or when your heater is blowing nice warm air on your feet - where is it getting that suction air from? I picture something like a water pump that keeps spinning and trying to push water but having a blocked off inlet hose from the radiator. Could it simply be pulling it's inlet air from the inside of the car?
