I know there are a few of you on here running EFI. Where did you mount your computer? My harness has a nice little rectangular grommet. I'm thinking up under the dash directly above the heater box, and cutting a hole in the firewall above and to the right of the heater hoses for the harness to pass through and grommet to fit into.

I ran mine to the side and close to under the heaterbox,I plan to mount my computer behind the kick panel if it will.

This shows the entry point I used

If you go to my gallery pic ( page 6 pic title a/c install center pic frrst row ) you will see my comp. wiring entery point . In a non a/c car I made a pcm tray that mounted under the dash via screws to the cowel vent and lower dash lip. In a a/c car I routed the pcm wiring behind the a/c case ( between a/c case and fire wall ) and mounted the pcm via velcro to the bottom of a/c case . Hope that helps Jay

Excellent, thanks guys. Jay, that is pretty much what I had in mind, and I think that's the way I'm going to go. My car does not have A/C, and there is a ton of room up in there. I brought the harness home with me so I can work on getting rid of all the air bag wiring and crap over the week, as well as rearrange some of the wires so that they are on the correct side for the starter solenoid. The '93 Mustang the harness came from had the battery on the drivers side of the car. My air box is going to go where the battery originally was, and I am relocating the battery to the trunk, so I plan to just leave the starter solenoid in it's original location.

I originally mounted the computer under the dash, above and to the left of the brake pedal, somewhat above the parking brake pedal (if you have one on the floor). I took the mounting hardware from the Grand Marquis in the junkyard that I got the harness from. This mounting configuration causes the connector to be inside the driver's wheel well. Here's a picture of the mounting area:

I built a cover made of sheetmetal to protect this from water and sealed it with seam sealer. I installed it over the top of the this area, and it works very well.

I have since decided to move the computer to the drivers side rear wheel well, behind the plastic to the left of the rear seat. I wanted to do this to give me more room under the dash. To do this I had to extend the harness, meaning I had to solder and shrink tube both ends of about 40 wires. I have a picture of that somewhere, it was a mess. It worked well in the end though and freed up some some space under the dash.

That's exactly how I did mine. It's basically a stock location so the wire lengths work out and makes it easy to hook stuff up.

The grommet is mounted high, just under the lip between the cowl and the firewall, lined up with the passenger side windshield washer pisser.

One thing I remembered when I saw this post...if you mount it here you have to be careful of the windshield wiper linkage. Before I moved the EEC to the rear quarter area, I tried putting it on top of the heater/AC box (granted, the heater/AC box I have in my car is from an '81 Thunderbird, but it is similar), and it was fine until the first time I ran the wipers. The linkage started binding against the EEC case and knocked out the chip I had plugged into the back of the EEC at the time. Also, make sure you don't have windshield or cowl leaks... :)

So... did anyone else feel a little nervous and overwhelmed as you pulled the factory tape and plastic covering off the harness, exposing a crap load of wires? :D I think I'm going to go back to the junkyard this weekend, and pull a spare harness out of the car I got the computer from. Just in case this doesn't go over well. :rofl2:

Oh no my man, you're not seeing what I'm seeing. :rofl2:

Does anyone remember what the wire with the diode in it was for? It would be up towards the passenger side front of the car, if the harness were in the car. Grey wire with white stripe and black wire with white stripe, go into a two prong female connector. My gut feeling is I don't need them. Somewhere I read what it was for, but I don't remember now.

Nah, I know which one the mass air is. I've got a few plugs that I'm not sure what they are, and even when I had the engine running, they weren't hooked to anything. I went ahead and removed the air bag wiring and rear arranged several wires. Going to wait until this weekend before I remove any more wiring, so that I can go back to the to the junkyard and see what these unknown plugs are hooked to on the car there. Even with the new manual transmission computer, I'm still having a problem with it idling way to high, and it's leading me to believe I've got to be missing something that's supposed to plug into one of those plugs.

Idle air solenoid has a diode on some years. That would explain idle issues...
