well i dropped the tank while i have the rearend out and not suprizingly its in real good shape.so a once over with the wire wheel and a good flat black paint it should be ready to go.also pulled out the sending unit and it looks like new.the old holley fuel pump even works but i will replace it.i will add more pics when done.

I know how you feel.Took 23 yrs before I could do up my blue beast. Its a good feeling to arrive at the point where you can do what you need and most(if not all)of what you want.Did your tank still have the US Steel stamp on it???

Paint your stripped tank with a nice coat of POR-15 and you'll be all set. I pulled my Pinto gas tank, stripped it, had some holes brazed, lined it with POR-15 gas tank liner, painted it with POR-15 "Metal mask", installed all new gaskets and a sending unit, and it's a beaut.

Since you have it out, take the time to restore it now, since it's not something that is "easy" to get at. Have fun!

i didnt think you could get new tanks. anyhow mine is almost like new and the sending unit is perfect.the tank just needs a little clean up and paint.

if you have a good tank (like your's) then i wouldnt worry about buying one but you can buy them new for the 75-77 cars (18 gal) and use either longer straps or longer bolts. that's what i done in my '71 cause my tank had 1" of rust complete across the bottom inside of it :16suspect
