I have a 72 maverick that had an i6 now it has a 302 out of an 88 licoln. I am using the flywheel off of the i6 but i makes soome noise some times and the car vibrates like hell any where above ten mph. Preferably i would of used the fly wheel that came with the 302 but it is way too big for the c4 bell housing. I there a 28oz balanced flywheel that work for both? thank you for all your help.
ok odd my teacher/machinshop owner said 28. thank you for the info. do they make one to fit both the c4 andthe 302.
To make things worse... the I6 was zero imbalance. So you have an internal balance flexplate on an external 50 oz engine. Edit: Manual trannys use a flywheel, auto trannys have a flexplate.
anything after around '84, all 302's will have a 50 oz. imbalance. you will need to buy a 157 tooth 50 oz. flywheel for a 302. i have an extra if interested that i bought for a project and wont be using. just pm me if interested. and some FYI, all inline 6 cylinder engines have a "neutral" or "0" balance. early 302's that are pre-'84 or so will have a 28 oz imbalance, as will ALL 351W's no matter what year.
Im trying to get to get the part from napa but they say it dose not tell them the weight of the flywheels. Dose anyone know what 84 or newer vehicle would use that flywheel stock?
I don't believe any vehicles came with a 50 oz 157 tooth from the factory. It is an aftermarket combo. Just type is 50 oz 157 tooth flexplate into google and it should bring up a bunch of results. I bought mine from a place called KMJ performance. It was $39 plus $15 shipping
just a normal starter is fine, or u can do like i done and use a later model high-torque starter from like a 94-95 5.0 mustang
