Trans won't shift, or won't shift properly (with the shifter).

Darren; it is the manual shift lever inside the trans. It has the detents in it and looks like a rooster comb. If the spring on the valve body is not lined up or in place, or the manual lever is loose or out of place, then the trans will have shift problems, or no shift at all. Anywho, that is what a "rooster comb" is.

In my experience if you hold in the column shifter out of it's detentes or the floor shifter button in and you can move the shifter to all of it's positions without feeling any detentes or positions then the rooster comb is out of position.
    That make any since?
    clint

It is probably not engaged in the valve spool that controls the shifts.
You will need to pull the pan to see if the manual valve is moving as the linkage is moved.
If not then you will have to drop the valve body to get the valve and the stud on the "Rooster Comb" lined up properly.
