Hello to all, this is a great site.my son is building a 72 sprint that you may remember we saved 100 feet from crusher. He is getting his license soon and we have been putting a great deal of time in it for a project that just keeps growing. We fired it up the other night and a link is on u tube under "running maverick".nothing like that initial start up.I am trying to talk him out of not going with original paint scheme, but he is a teenager and its going to be his car(upon completion of high school). Thanks to everyone for help, advice, and resources we all share.:drive:Proud maverick dad,Gary

Cool, always good to hear about a maverick being saved.....And a sprint is one mav you should keep the paint the same,if it was juat a plain mav I would say paint it any color ya want.. A sprint needs to stay factory color and interior should stay the same as well....

The paint is what makes it a Sprint. I'd say keep it that way. you can add a few personal touches. There's a nice sprint at the Roundup. Bobcat taillights, bucket seats, grabber grill, grenada console. Looks nice, it's different, but it's still a Sprint.:)

IF he wants to paint a car any color heres my advice for him: Sell the sprint to somebody who will appreciate its rareness buy him an old maverick for a couple hundred and then you will have $$ to fix it up with it and you wouldnt be ruining a sprint.

The Sprint Maverick is a rare and unique car, especially a V8 one. It will lose it's distinctive nature if painted any other way but stock. It then becomes just another Maverick. If he is dead set on painting it another color, consider selling it to someone who would appreciate it's uniqueness.

I am sure someone out there would buy it for a nice profit and then he can do what he wants with the money.

These words, coming from a true lover of the Sprints, are merely my opinion.

    Jim

I agree. The paintjob is the cool part. Restore it and sell it, use the money to buy a Comet GT.

    Welcome aboard! :Handshake
I notice that several of the guys that have responded to this thread own Sprints...including myself. Unfortunately I have to agree with them that the car should keep the unique paint job that came on the Sprints. Of course the car belongs to you guys and you can do what you want...we can only give our opinions. It certainly won't be the first Sprint that's been painted a different color. In the long run it doesn't matter what you do as long as you enjoy it with your son and post pics for us all to see (that's mandatory). :)

my other son has a one owner 74 comet gt,we had to put a rear clip on it because of sitting for so long.finally talked owner out of it and my dad bought it for 200 bucks,Dad has already turned it into small bumper car as the clip comet donor car was a 71 comet drag car.302/3 speed in the floor.still runs on original powertrain.
