ok gonna try to explain this as well as i can.. 75 mav 250 i-6. started running like crap a few months ago and got worse and worse, started off with basic tune up stuff, new distributor, spark plugs, wires, cleaned up the carb, etc.. then i realized the base gasket between the carb and intake was leaking, so i replaced it. ran awesome for the first day, second day ran great for about half the day, then it started stuttering real bad when i accelerate the least bit, couldnt fig it out. next day stuttered for a while then all at once started running good agian. today on my way back from work it sta. sad becuase i thought i had the problem fixed after replacing that gasket. any help would be greatly appreciated. sorry if this is hard to understand

does your car have an egr valve?
it could be leaking or sticking open sometimes. when the motor is running well pull the vac line off the eger and plug the line. see if the problem returns or not.

You might have the PVC value going bad.

Im with Bryant on this one.Or there are dead horses in the carb/low float setting or a cracked carb base.Good luck!!!

plugged the egr valve not much difference, pcv valve recently replaced and seems to be working, replaced the coil (just because its never been replaced) made no difference, can't see any crack in the carb. what are dead horses?

I'd check for water in the gas.

you can sometimes tell if the timeing chain is loose by checking the timeing with timeing light. if it holds steady at one point then its probly not loose. if its bouncing around a few degrees then the chain is probly loose

Doesn't mean there isn't water in it.
