Haven't posted for a while, busy busy busy. I am about ready to start the rebuild and need some input.
What would you suggest for a mild cam upgrade in a '74 302? I don't want it to lope like a Harley and have the hunger of a 747, just a little more punch than stock.
Also, I located a master reuild kit from Flatlander Racing for $320. Has anyone dealt with this vendor and is this too cheap to be quality parts?

for a cam, look for one that will work well in the rpm range that you plan on driving in. most 'R/V' type cams produce alot of torque and are great for street machines while still getting good gas mileage. look for something like that or check out Edelebrock's Performer cam. i used one a few yrs ago and liked it alot. it had just a slight lope at idle, worked great with my stock converter and everything, and offered great power and torque for the streets. it's rpm range is from idle to 4500 i believe. hope this helps

For old school style motors I have had good luck with 280' .480 lift cams which is a fairly common profile. Anything larger and your going to start running into other issues such as stall speed, gears etc.

For a daily driver I would suggest something around 270-280 duration and under .500 lift.
