I have a local mustang / older fords guy wanting to do some trading for front disc brakes. he has a couple of T-10's ....a toploader and a 3-speed OD out of a granada.

which is the better tranny and what would be a price on the disc set ....as is pulled off the car and not cleaned up.

disc brakes are worth $200 dirty. that 3+1 OD Granada trans is worth about $200 or so, the T10 (depending on what they come out of) are worth anywhere from $200-$700 and same goes for the toploader.

no matter how u trade, you'll probably come out on top :yup:

I've had a couple of T10s. Good transmissions but the toploader is the way to go. Do you know what it came out of?

Said it came out of a mustang. what gets me is that most of what I find don't have shifters and looking on ebay...new Hurst shifters cost as much as the trannys.

Here is his craigslist ad......he is friends with another guy I have meet at the local pull-a-part. they both do older mustangs.

if the toploader is from a 390 car then you would have to change the input shaft to run it behind a small block. but he has some good deals on some of his parts :yup:

Yep I talked to him about that last night. My First car was a 74 maverick grabber an I swapped out the c4 for a toploader 4 speed with a Hurst comp shifter.

The comet I just stripped had the 3 speed on the floor setup in it. out side of surface rust on the flywheel everything looks like I can bolt it up behind the 302 in the maverick. I'll change the throuh-out bearing and replace the seals. I am wanting to get it drivable before the rod run in september.

If memory serves me right the 250/300 6cyl bell housing is the same as the 302....could be wrong....having more of those senior moments lately.

yup, the bell's are the same but the flywheel will be different than the SBF ones. you'll need a 157 tooth ot 164 tooth (depending on which bellhousing you have) for your V8. (if i can help, lemme know. i have both)

but with his parts you should be able to make a good deal :yup:

From the looks of the vin and all this comet was suppose to be a v8. It had the belly bar, double hump tranny mount and the v8 z-bar all hooked up. they had made a bracket to support the engine side of the z-bar....and the bar was unmodified....so I am thinking they just pulled out the v8 and dropped in the 6cyl.

I wish they brought that here.
It's hard to unload a pristine 3+1 here for 100 bux.
I have picked up several for little of nothing, but apparently so can everyone else!

I am afraid to use one as my stock 3 speed gears were too widely spaced, and the 3+1 has the same ratios on the first 3 gears. Therefore it is too wide as well, that sorta cancels out the benefit of the OD.

I'd definately jump on a short tail SBF toploader.
Around here one of those brings 200 bux as a worn out lump of crap.
400 bux if it even appears to be road worthy.

I've thrown away a couple of those overdrive 3 speeds. Couldn't give them away.

I have both now. I removed the cover on both and looked at all the gears. every thing seemed ok..no broken teeth. the toploader input shaft has a little slop to it.
now to find a shifter for them.
