Last night i was driving home from a massive car cruise with my 11 year old daughter in my trusty Comet when we stopped at a 7-11 to get something to drink as it was hot. While we were standing in front of the car this older (than me) guy on a bike asks me," Hey is that a Chevy Vega?" What the hell, the guy was in his mid fifty's at the very least, i would think he could tell what kind of car it was in a heart beat. I answered, '' NO IT'S A MERCURY COMET, sorta like a Ford Maverick!" He says back, "Oh well it's a nice car." And peddled his bike down the road. Come on does this look like a Vega!!! unfinished_comet_front_by_barn_original.jpg unfinished_comet_rear_2008_original.jpg

I guess it could be worse and have someone think it is a Nova or a Aspen or something like that. I'll have to add the Vega to my list of names that people think my Comet is.:burnout:

It's the four taillights on a Comet that throws some people ... the early Vegas has similar ones.

I got that from a co-worker for a while ... honest mistake at first ... then he saw that it was striking a nerve, so he kept it up. That is, until I took him for "a ride" ... probably had to change his undies ... never called it Vega after that. :thumbs2:

Yeah ... Hot Wheels makes a Vega ... a Chevelle station wagon !?! ... a stinkin' "unsafe-at-any-speed" Corvair... sooo .... where is the Comet GT guys?

I hear you! That's exactly what I said, standing in front of the Hot Wheels end cap, seeing the Vega. I bought the AMC Javelin. Thought about the Buick Grand National. But honestly - Chevelles and Corvairs and Vegas - I keep going back thinking I'm going to get lucky and see a Maverick!

By the way, my wife bought me a '71 Maverick Grabber Johnny Lightning model, 'cause I was moping about how I couldn't find a Hot Wheels model. It has no hood scoops. The card says '71 Grabber but on the bottom of the model it says 1970 Maverick Grabber - so I guess that explains it?

Someday Mattel will give their head a shake and decide that, hey i think the million or so people who once owned a Maverick or Comet would likely buy a new diecast of a Maverick or Comet and the rest of the Hot Wheels fans might buy one too. They can keep their Mighty Maverick diecast as a rare Hot Wheels special edition, i already have 5 or so of those, maverick_dash_plaque_with_hotwheels_maverick_original.jpg all i want is a new diecast that's all. Hell i would buy at least 20 or so of them just to do my part. We all need to get together and flood Mattel head office with calls for a new diecast!!!!!!!:thumbs2: Thank God for Johnny Lighting and Motor Max. 4_toy_mavericks_original.jpg
