nope ... saying that serpentines work better Good Morning! ... have some more coffee Frank ... PS ... I will probably be keeping my V-Belts a long time ... I want my car to look "very factory", while not necessarily 100% original, if that makes sense. I might budge on a few items like a Taurus fan. But I think serpentine belts might look out of place on my car.
i'm a 1 cup kinda guy...but thanks anyway.:Handshake do you have any STATS to back this statement or is this your opinion? ...Frank...
With just the crank, water pump and alternator a serpentine would look out of place IMO. It wouldn't really snake around anything. I like v belts. I even carry a couple extra in the trunk for fun.
I used a serpentine style belt on my Falcon using nothing but junkyard pulleys. I used a fox body 5.0 crank pulley, 5.0 crown vic water pump pulley (there are actually 2 sizes, around 1990 they got a hair smaller, either will work), and a 3g alternator. If youre not using a 3g alternator, you should be able to just use any ribbed pulley in place of the v-groove pulley. All told including the 3g alternator I think I spent about $30 on it from my local junk yard. This picture makes my car look downright hacked, when actually that was far from the case. lol
ive got an eletric water pump so i just have two pullys. the serp. belt is the only way to go in my book.
im leaning more to the v-belt for old school look but i will always have the serp pullys if i want to change them .but i still have a little time before my final decision. P.S. thanks for all the input
old folks im not that old 42 on sunday but i guess it was the way i was raised OLD SCHOOL. you know david us old folks can still teach you younguns a thing or two J/K
No Frank, I don't have specific stats, but the greatly increased surface area of a serpentine belt has to be significant and I have seen them go many, many more miles than a V-belt, so calling it merely my opinion is pretty weak. Any new cars still come with V-belts? ... none that I can think of ... must be a pretty good reason for that. I haven't had a car with a sepentine belt that squealed except for the one time when I had an alternator completely lock up and stop turning.
good point...if you would have had V-belts...you could have cut that belt and kept on driving. same if an A/C/power steering or power brake belt broke or they locked up...
im probably goin 1 v belt for everything if i can then get an electric water pump when i get the money
if you go with the electric waterpump/fan then your setup could be just 1 short V- belt...that would be neat and clean looking...
