Strong gas smell and fuel pump . . .

When I drive my car I smell a lot of gas in the exhaust. I have my exhaust dumping before the rear axle. It's worse at idle and much better at part throttle and WOT. The car drives great, no stumbles, no hesitation, perfect. There is no hissing in the engine bay I can appreciate. I set the idle mixture screw to best vacuum reading and highest RPM. I am wondering if the idle circuit is set too rich. Should I turn the idle screws in some more to get it leaner?

It will smell if the exhaust doesn't pass the rear bumper.

Does it smell like gas or exhast? If it smells like gas you may have a fuel leak.

it's a pretty strong has smell. I'll have to check the fuel line going up to the carb, where could I have a leak? probably at the carb right?

It can leak at the carb, any rubber line in the car, or the fuel pump.

ok thanks I'll check it out. Hey Bryant, there are a few fuel pumps available (remember, I wanted to upgrade to a mechanical). Which one do you recommend I get?

The gas tank could be rusted or the fuel level sender that you just did. I'll have to look into the fuel pump

here are some fuel pumps that should work for you.
these will work with out a fuel pressure regulator and should be good with the nitrous kits that max out at 125hp.

these pumps will need a regulator. it will work for your 331 and may be enough for when you supercharge it.

im not sure about this one but it should cover your superchared and nitroused 331 and it says it doesnt use a regulator.

I might as well get one that'll be sufficient for the 331. thanks Bryant and I'll try to get some of this stuff we need so we can have everything ready before I put the nitrous in.

youll never have a chance at the prius. i can put a stroker motor in it and i can put bigger elec motor in it and i can put more batteries in it, and i can turbo it, and i can supercharge it.

LOL plus prius have a secret weapon, their electronics system gains mileage by sucking the power out of vehicles around it... your magnetic field is absorbed robbing you of power and giving it to them...hehe
