well i decided to go all hotrod on my roller motor since it has new bearings and is a low milage motor and i plan on new rings on my old flat top pistons to start. Then throw on my 73 maverick heads with about 10000 miles on them untill otherwise noted. intake i think im going iron 4 barrel on it just for kicks. big ol cam to come of course ill be on the lookout with the e7 springs (500 lift on them)

any input on this? anything to grab from motors that i can find?

might switch to gt40s if i can find a pair :bouncy:

tell me of stuff you have found in the yards for your motor.

I'd use an aluminum intake over the iron one, you can usually find some on 80's mustangs.

Also a stock HO roller cam is pretty good.

My roller 5.0 is getting a Comp Cam Thumpr series cam and a Cobra intake (old Cobra) along with GT40P heads....but it's going in my Mustang....not the Mav.

I believe the 84 or 85 stangs had a holley 4 barrell and a aluminum intake that was about equal to an eddy performer

i know that you know about matching valve springs to the cam. im not sure which cam your using in the block (flat tappet or roller) and what springs are on the heads your using.
also what pistons are you puting in?
whats wrong with the pistons in the roller block?
    what year rollerblock is it?
you get a significat weight savings using an alum. intake over a iron intake. saving weight has the same effect as adding horsepower.

they are stock springs on the heads right now.
pistons are stock flat top pistons.
1 piston is missing out of the engine, they are the dome ones
its an 89 lincoln (or what im told)

trying to stick to a "back in the day" engine

I had one once. You can spot them by a bunch of checkered castings on the top surfaces. Look like they've been in a waffle iron.

ok i think im on the same page now.
you need to make sure that those old pistons are the right size for the bore of the block.
what rods and crank are you using?
if your using the crank that came in the roller block and the rods on the flattop pistons you really should have the rotating assembly balanced. otherwise you may end up with a bad vibration.
still am not sure if you plan on using a roller cam or a flat tappet cam. the stock roller cam will probly make more power than a mild flat tappet cam. also you know that the valve springs on your older heads are probly for a flat tappet cam. this means that they will be too light for a roller cam and would go into valve float at lower rpms.
it seems to me that you have a real missmatched pile of parts that your going to try to cobble togther, and that sets you up for lots of possible problems. keep asking the questions.

    3. will the pistons really make a difference?
    4. me neather:D
    5. yes i know, ill switch to e7 springs:thumbs2: flat tappet ill go over 500 lift so it doent eat the lifters

if you change a component in the rotating assembly (pistons, rods, crank, balancer, and flywheel/flexplate) there is a chance that you will throw off the balance. the balancer and flywheel/flexplate are not that much of a problem as long as they are the correct ones for the crank. the rods, pistons and crank are all a matched balanced assembly and mixing up different ones with out rebalanceing is not a good idea.

beams are the exact same casting number C8OE

checked the diameter and did a test fit. seems ok (not that i will leave it like that)
