sense for what a comet? I am I just have have certain guidelines for it, IE price and distance. Other than that, as soon as I see a listing I am out there if it looks like a good deal within the hour. And I am always polite "Yes sir, Ma'am" Thank you etc... And I try not to come across as a know it all, or demanding 'SHOW ME THIS NAO' Oh well, guess I'll keep lookin and hopefully can find one soon and start driving her and building her up
I honestly think its the 1 hour drive thats limiting you.. Rent a uhaul and borrow a friends truck and travel 8 hours if u have to. Rarely are you gonna find a maverick 1 hour close to you just travel a bit and i guarantee u find one
Oh I totally agree with you, I mean I can go pretty far up for a couple hours(3) no problem, I just need to make sure that car is exactly what I want, etc.... It's mainly my dad as he is paying for it (graduation present, first car). Plus you'd have to factor in gas for that day, then the hours to drive up there (time, money gas, food, place to stay?). I'd be all for it to drive the extra mile, just have the pop's don't want me to drive up that far and be disappointed, if you can see where I am coming from.
I drove 8 Hrs(one way) to pick up the Sprint I own (yonkers NY from Buffalo NY)...Dont limit your distance kid. 250.00 in gas, 155.00 for the U haul trailer rented out of Yonkers one way to buffalo plus the purchase of the car. I did however finalise the deal over the phone after many questions and pictures. You can get the seller to do some legwork for you if they are cool and willing to sell...Good luck
some people are sentimental about their cars... dont tell them your plans, just tell them you will drive it the way it is for now and have plans to restore it to original condition later on... also, dont let distance stand in your way, not many of these cars around and a good one might be further than you think< I bought mine 600 miles away, had to have it shipped from NC to NY... so figure that into your costs...
I had to drive to WaKeeney, Kansas for mine. Appx. 1650 miles one way. Peckerwoods wouldn't budge on the price either. But I had to have it and I'm glad I got it. Took 4 days to drive there and back. P.S. Some people are reluctant to sell to Teens...don't give up.
Mine came from about 200 miles away. We were pretty much settled on the deal before I left. I actually drove the car back... Three hour trip down, six back! Not only did the car commence to running like absolute crap as soon as I left civilization, but I didn't know about the fresh air vents or the fact that they could be closed. I thought I must have some horrible rust holes somewhere. It was a cold, slow, somber ride that really had me wondering if I'd made a terrible mistake. Where was I going with that? Ah, yeah, trailers are nice...
side note on trailers,,, If you rent u-haul, cheaper to rent local then to rent one way. I towed one out to In. and back (600 miles or so) and cost me 40 or so bucks at that time. One way was well over $125 or so. Just have to make sure you are getting the car.
I drove about 100 miles to get mine, and drove it home. Price was settled before I went to get it. He was asking 3800 I got it for 2500.
Damn everyone is making the effort! Well here what do you guys think of this: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/cto/1804992157.html Thinking of seeing it on thursday if not tmmrw... he went down from 2650
It looks good, id offer him $2000 and see if he bites. Be sure to check for rust spots, check the floor pans and the cowl area, even cali cars get rust there. Also if you want smaller bumpers they swap right over
you know I do I want that GRABBER hood so bad.. I think this one looks good... graduation is tmmrw, looks like no awesome car on grad day
