I have'nt looked yet, but is there any way to lube the heater fan motor on an a/c car? My fan works good, but squeals.

Thanks guys. Do the a/c cars take the same fan motor as the non a/c cars?

I have been looking at getting a blower motor, too. I have an A/C heater box that I am rebuilding. This sat for years. At first the fan would not turn at all, but I did get it running on my bench ... still a bit noisy.

As far as I have been able to tell, A/C and non-A/C are different pieces. You have to search "blower motor". "Fan motor" doesn't turn up much in the way of results. Parts stores apparently can still get these.

As a sidenote.... I got a seal kit to refoam the box. The kit I got was for a 71-73 Mustang, and so far all indications are that the A/C heater boxes for both cars are very similar, if not identical. Not quite done messing with it yet. Others here have used seal kits for 69-70 Mustangs and reported they were close, but it sounds like some seals needed trimming.

It is possible that the blower motors are the same as Mustang, too.

Thank you, CaptainComet, for your reply. It was helpfull. Do you think that it would be possible to drill a small hole in the end of the of the motor's case, so that the bushing in the end would be accessable for a penetrant or lithium grease. If my memory serves me, it seems like my '65 f-100 had a small hole just for that purpose.:tiphat:

It can be done but what normally happens whe people try that is the shaft or bearing gets nicked and then it either won't turn at all or it sounds like an airplane taking off. Never use grease - those are "oil-lite" bearings and need oil to stay lubed. That is why they are assembled with a felt pad soaked in oil. The motors are cheap enough that replacement is the right way to go. Even if you do get oil into the bearing and don't nick the shaft you have opened it up for dirt to get in and your fix won't last long.

And that's assuming you oil the right bearing. It could be the one by the fan that you can't get too without taking it apart.

Fan motors sell for 50-$60.00. I don't see going thru all that trouble and still have a high possibility of failure soon after returned to service. I have a AC car and the motor works but when I go thru the trouble of replacing the heater core, going w/ new motor.

I still have mine sitting on the bench and I keep messing with it. I keep touching the leads to my cordless drill battery. The motor seemed to quiet down a few days in a row, but when I ran it a bit yesterday, it just squealed the whole time.... definitely am replacing mine.

Pssst .... Go to RockAuto.com and look for the part.

3 left on close-out. The price will make your eyes bug out of your head.

Then, enter this discount code (good for any Rock Auto purchase until 12/02/10) .... 5EF5C11C02D7. You enter this in the "how did you hear about us" box (the second one you will see in checkout).

    Just ordered mine .... :thumbs2:

Consider your dreams no longer dashed ....
