My car came from Georgia by way of central Wisconsin. I bought the car July last year at car corral. The guy who owned it got it near Atlanta and claims he drove it home to Milwaukee.
Since I have owned the car and been to numerous shows/cruises and events
I can just about count the Mavs/Comets on one hand and that includes a one pretty large Ford mfg only cars. I am really suprised when I see another one of these cars at an event.

When you consider California is nearly three Georgias in terms of geography and nearly four in terms of population, I'll bet there are still more Mavericks per square mile and per person.

I stand by my previous statement. Georgia is the undisputed king of creepy Maverick hoarders.

Whats your classification of a "Rice burner"?

In my opinion Young gear heads will modify the cars that are available to them, now this moves to different generations of gear heads as well as cars. We as current gear heads should ENCOURAGE the younger generation into modifying cars NO MATTER THERE MODEL SELECTION.

My grandfather was a gearhead his available cars from 50 mercs to 70s muscle(he wrecked more great cars of the time, than I will ever own in a life time).

My uncle was a gear head and modified cars from 70's muscle up until the fox body era.

My step daughter is 19 and likes her Toyota Matrix ( its a quick fun to autocross car!). Has a few engine mods, nice stereo, and she is saving for wheels and suspension.

I'm a gearhead and modify from 50's up mid 90's. Including a half a dozen ford probes and a cavalier. Most with body kits, loud exhausts and 12 second timeslips. My "ricer" cars were faster, better steering, more reliable, more comfortable to drive, and less expensive to maintain.

And with modern technology some of them "rice burners" are freaking fast! They may not be your preffered model or brand but I think they deserve respect where respect is due. Now there always guys in EVERY car group that send what we feel "disrespect" to our cars by shameless modding. Not only in import scene.


And if your really want to think about it, why would't the Maverick/Comet be considered a "old school rice burner"?

Some of the main reasons it was built I believe was for fuel economy, compete against imports being brought in and sold at lower costs, it is not a full size car. Alot of these same traights of a maverick is the same selling points for imports of the time and continue to do so.

Does it come with a v8 sure, but also a 6. Both were economical engines for the time and not considered "muscle car" engines. Big block power is where it was at back in the day.

FYI I still love my maverick and its my favorite car in my fleet. Thats why through all my cars its still in the stable all these years

 

WOW! That black 70 Maverick in Galt, CA is super nice and the blue 73 is as close as we will ever get in Utah, I tried to talk my sister who lives in Las Vegas, NV to buy it for her son here in Utah this summer.
