Here is another question.

Why do some of the cars ( I've seen it on a Comet but can't say that I have seen it on a Maverick ) have the reinforced shock towers like a Cobra Jet Mustang or Boss 302 and some don't

 

Everyone knows comets are generally a better built car and make more power than mavericks so need more support


All jokes a side, were dealing with 40 year old cars and people have probably removed them at some point. Good question though not sure if all com/mavs had them. I do believe at some point possibly maybe in 73 they switched the design for power brakes. I never really like the power brake support brackets compared to the standand ones.

 

And thank goodness for that - it gives us parts that have aged better to fix our Mavericks with

 

At some year they got the reinforcement. I think it was 71 or 72. If your talking about the export brace then some guys just forgot to put them back in after doing maintenance on the car. I think all of them came with them.

 

He might be talking about the inside tower reinforcement plates where the top A-frames bolt through the towers - on some cars not on others

 

Thats what I was thinking. I just cant remember the year when they got them. I know theres a thread about it somewhere.

 

Only big blocks and Boss 302 got reinforced shock tower on the inside. My 74 has the outside reinforcment below the UCA mounting bolts.

 

I'm talking about the wrap around plates that were welded to the shock towers themselves about half way down to the bottom like rthomas771 is talking about in the engine copartment. I'm not sure if they ever put the inside mounts on the Mavericks or comets.

 

73 was the first year for the reinforced towers, and mostly on V8 cars, power brakes didn't show up until 76...

 

Dave Are you slipping up? Power Brakes were an option on 75 models

 

They were held up a year in customs at the border

 

Are those holes for getting at the grease fittings?...They're huge!

 

Power brakes as an option in 76 as well i think, my 76' doesn't have power brakes, and it's still the factory installed master cylinder..... i think?

 

I guess the PO wanted to get both hands on the grease fitting at the same time. I have welded a hub cap over the hole since that pic was taken.

 

So Dave, Did the Maverick and the Comet both get the brace. I know I had seen it on a 74 Comet so I assume they both did...Gary
