My 74 302 has a dura sprark electonic dizzy, and now that its going into my 71, can I do the pertronics swap so I don't have to get the harness and box ? I forgot to remove those parts before I sold the car...

NPD has the harness and box but its over 200 bucks just for the two pc's.....

Or I could just buy a rebuilt points dizzy and the pertronics swap for about 130.00

If it was me I would make my own harness and buy a new GM module. The $200 price tag sounds about $175 too much.

Im with Jeff. You can hide a GM HEI module pretty good because its small. Or you can mount a DS module(upgrade to DS II while your at it) in a place where it cant be seen. Either way you can get either of those for under 40 bucks.

Duraspark with a GM module has been beat to death. You can find this information using Google or searching this forum.
The Duraspark was replaced with a Duraspark II in '76. The DS II uses a different control box and has a larger distributor cap

I think only the 74 solid state ignition came with the small cap. Duraspark I also has the large HEI cap.

Pertronix is the only way to go far more advanced technology and fits any early ford distributor with no other mods needed have used them in all my factory appearing cars for over ten years and I drive them all never any failures !

They say that about MSD also. But guess what system its based on :D Theres a thread in the tech article section about the different DS boxes. Theres even one that lets your retard timing to use with a Forced induction system or N2O.

You can use the large cap with either. And also use it on a points distributor. So that's no indication of what system you have.

Is there a good reason not to use the smaller cap with a DS II ignition?
The reason I ask is that the large cap interferes with my large air cleaner/filter.

The smaller cap will hold more Radio Frequency Interference, and Electro-Magnetic Interference and you will cause more false firing. With the short rotor barely covering the internal centrifugal advance mechanism, you are guaranteed to get lots of firings to ground.
The larger vented cap has a much taller rotor putting distance between the distributor internals and the high voltage and the cap has vanes in the cap to stir up the air and keep the ozone from collecting in the top of the cap.
The DS or DS II doesn't have a cap the size of a Holley 4500 Dominator. :D

And if you want to run a factory air cleaner you can get one with a provision that clears the DS cap :)
