Huge ditto. Remans are junk. Spend the extra for a new one. Its kind of an important part. We wont install reman masters at work unless we have no other choice. They just come back too soon, too often if they make it out of the shop.
Yep. Because brake fluid is hygroscopic(absorbs water readily) the bore will rust when the fluid gets old causing pits that wear the seals. Ever wonder why brake fluid in the reservoir turns black? It's pieces of the seals washed up into the reservoir(and other absorbed metal particles from the brake lines/ master cylinder).
ok so i replaced the master cylinder and started to bleed the breaks. they started stiffening up and the all of the sudden CLUNK! i look at the rear driver side and its pouring fluid out of the drum. When i took the drum apart the entire insides fell apart busted springs, master cylinder was in peices and whatnot. So now my weekend just filled up
U mean the wheel cylinder were in pieces. I suggest replacing all wheel cyl. spring sets and hoses; that shud pretty much eliminate worries abt failure. Also, drums and or rotors if they are beyond maching.
Didn't someone tell you to inspect them ??? I've had the same exact thing happen to me before, at least wheel cylinders/hardware are cheap. Good luck!
$30 a piece isn't that cheap to me. plus 15 for springs and 10 for the adjusting rod that was completely round. withing the past two weeks ive spent as much on brake stuff and a power steering hose as i have since i got it
I need to get you the number to my brake shop, they're on 14th st and I get everything from there cheaper than NAPA, and its usually the same brand too. My wheel cylinders were $8 each and the hardware kit was $10 for both drums....but that was for the rear. I think the front is a bit more expensive. But any who why are your driving around riverside with drums? Drivers out here scare me even when I'm driving the modern G6 with all the fancy new brakes. EDIT: Next time before you buy any brake part call them up for a price to see if it cheaper, I get disc rotors from them CHEAP, I'm talking about 50% less than any auto store.
ooh wow thanks! i just looked on napa and the fronts are much less then the rears, and hopefully front disks are in the near future because after driving the maverick around for a while when i get in a car with power disks it really makes me want the swap haha
that disk brake article i found is working out pretty good for me on the conversion. cant give you any performance info yet but for the price and the comfort of having disks its worth it
and remember to change the fluid completely for a new one every 30,000 to 40,000, and that's for all cars, not just mavericks.
again...i have never...changed...brake fluid in my life. i have replaced M/C on old cars and when bleeding the brakes it got replaced with fresh. but never went out to just...change...fluid...
