Has any one priced a rear drum lately for a 74 Maverick??? Over 100.00 at parts store. Think I will try to find one on here through sale section.
that's why Terry I went with the Crown Vic. rear disc. brake swap...everything new for both sides...rotors, calipers and pads...$125...
There are differences in the drums for some years of Mavericks, so just make sure you know what your getting. A 73 & earlier drum will not fit a 74 & up.
That sounds bogus to me. Years ago, I put some rear drums from a '75 Comet on my '73 Maverick, and ran them for years.
If you read what I said, you'd realize you did the opposite. The axle stub size increased in 74, so an early drum (70-73) has a smaller hole, which will not fit over the larger axle 74 & up.
I just checked online, and O'Reilly sells them for $50ea. Same part number for 1973 and 1975. These are 10-inch drums.
Checking in Auto Krafters 70-73 drums are the same. 74-75 drums are ths same but different from 70-73. The 70-73 are 39.95 and the 74-75 are 119.95. At Oreillys the 74 drums for rear are apx. 100.00.
74 & up drums seem to be hard to find, I get Street Rod guys calling me asking if I have any good used ones, since a lot of guys used 8" rears out of Mavericks in their rods.
I never knew that about Mavericks/Comets, but I just measured the hub diameter on a Granada rear-end that I have, and they measured 2-3/4", while my '73 Maverick hubs (stub?) measures 2-3/8". I guess I won't be using the Maverick brakes on that when I swap it in.
