Depends on what you call hard. If you're spinning the tires, you're into the gas pedal too hard. If the front wheels are turned anywhere past straight, the rear will tend to try to put the car into a fishtail. Happens when you least expect it. I did it downshifting my 06 Mustang GT once when on a wet road I mistakenly dropped in down into 2nd at about 55, going into an off ramp.

The truck's limited slip may not have ever locked up solid. The Helical ? Don't know, never driven one with that type. With a spool rear, it's inevitable that it's going to happen at some point.

If the tires are spinning, maybe you need some new tires?

very good point sir, after that little scare im alot more careful when its slick out, i have C4 so when ever it would start to fishtail in the rain i would let off the gas and straighten back up, theres and old parking lot not to far from where i live where i can test it.

;) When you find tires that don't spin on wet or slick roads, please let us know. The best I've ever seen were some "roundy-round" tires I had on the back of a big block 67 Stang back in the early 80's, they weren't slicks, but they had no tread such as you could say either. They were the only tires I've eber seen that would actually "get a bite" on wet roads, although you'd have never guessed it just by lookin at them.

If you've got your foot in the carburetor, then that's too hard. Any amount that results in wheel spin and loss of conrtol is too hard. I can recall the first time I rounded a street corner after getting the first posi (limited slip) rearend and foolishly nailing the go pedal,(on wet pavement) then immediately doing a 180 in front of the car waiting around the corner for the light to change. This was 30 something years ago. Never made that mistake again. :D

with a...(limited slip) you don't even want to do that...
with mine, (Detroit locker) when passing at 55-60 MPH I have to get out into the other lane, get the car straight and then...hard accelerate...(on dry payment)...:yup:
if I get on it crossing the center line it wants to get sideways...:chirp:

Yea, forget passing someone on a wet road. Did that once too long long ago. Mine gets a little sideways going fom 1st to 2nd when doing a freeway blast up an on ramp on dry road.

after the little spin i had i dont even take that chance on wet roads, whenever its has rained i drive it granny mode.

    Mine is 3.80.

It will behave like that with any gear, if your engine has the power to break the tires loose. And I don't mean "break them loose from a sitting standstill", because once the posi forces one of the tires to start chirping in the turn, you are already "broken loose" without the engine power, so just a little accelleration could cause you to start going sideways.

But you will have less of a chance of going sideways if you have a lower gear.

the tires(size and stickiness) and suspension setup(lean and opposite rise) will have a huge impact on how the car reacts too. Rear sway bars can be worth their weight in gold there.
