Radiator Support Question many moons ago i retro fitted an aluminum mustang radiator into my mav and added an electric fan(aftermarket for a foxbody) with a deep shroud. during the process i had to cut out the bottom of the original radiator support and replace it with a long section of metal much thicker than the original sheet metal section that i cut out, its not in the "L" shape it just goes straight across the front with thick welds at each end. would this mod weaken the chassi any? seems like that huge hunk of chassi that the strut rods go into is where all the front chassi support is plus i have a belly and shock tower bar inplace.
I don't see it having any effect on the chassis strength. As long as everything is tied back together I don't see it hurting supporting the radiator or headlight buckets.
I did the same thing. I am getting ready to cut out the strut rod support, and that added metal will be all that I have up there keeping things square. I don't think it will have any effect on the structural integrity of the frame.
I have to do that next. There are a LOT of spot welds holding that strut rod in, and I am not looking forward to that job. Almost tempted to keep it in, just for a jacking point. But I know that at least a bit of it is in the way of my sway bar mounting location.
