Was wondering if anyone could help me out, I had been looking to keep my 72 Maverick with a 200 in it. So far have found more 250 engines rather and was wondering what all would need to be changed if I wanted to swap out my 200 for a 250? I have a 3 speed manual transmission in my car and want to keep the car with a manual transmission. So I am guessing the 250 had a different transmission and bellhousing, also how about the driveshaft slip yoke? If anyone knows what all I would need the help would be appreaciated. I am thinking they probably had 3 speed transmissions with the 250 and am wondeirng which transmission this would be also. Any help would be welcome on this.
The trans will work, you will have to have a small block bell housing, and a flywheel from a 250 as they are 0 ballance. I think one from a 300 six will work but im not 100% shure. The slip yoke will not need to be changed, and I would think the Z bar would have to be changed as well, not shure. I would go with the bigger six myself if my 200 wasnt in such good cond with only 39,000 miles on it. I know that doesnt anwser all of your questions but its a start. I have a 302 bell housing if you need it. Ill sell it cheap as I have no need for it. Good luck with your car! Mark
Switching to a 250 is not hard at all. Remove the tranny and engine w/ bell housing. Install the 250 with the clutch and bell housing. Bolt the tranny that you have to the new bell housing. I don't know if the "Z" bar is different or not - try your old one to see if it will fit. I seem to remember that the adjusting screw is different, but I think thr rest will be fine. It has been a long time since I did thatswap, so cut my old memory a little slack. You will want a larger radiator but I don't think there is a problem with matching hoses or sides. Easy swaps like this don't happen very often.
