I have a 94 E-150 with a 302 AOD and the overdrive seems to come in very early ? At about 50 Km an hour , is there an adjustment to make this higher ? It's very sluggish at takeoff and you have to stand on it to go , could this be another problem like maybe a sensor or something ? This is my tow vehicle for the Mav in 2004 ! Rick
My AOD was doing the same thing. The TV cable came loose and I had to readjust it. It worked for me. I hope it works for you. See below (and related links). Adjusting the AOD Throttle Valve Cable links IMPORTANT: The AOD transmission may feel like it is shifting at the right time when the TV cable is actually way off! The transmission will work for a while and then FAIL! It is critical that you learn to set the TV exactly like this paper says. Why? So that you will "see" how it works, know that it's right and not be fiddling with it for an hour, when and if you have some other problem. 1. Pull/push TV cable and block assembly out of throttle arm rubber grommet. 2. Have someone floorboard accelerator pedal from inside the car. While the pedal is floored, push on the throttle body arm to make sure it's bottomed (wide open) against its stop. (Adjust throttle cable, if necessary.) 3. Push the locking tab up through the adjustment block, with a pocket screwdriver, so that the locking tab is standing up next to clevis pin as shown in the picture. 4. While someone is holding' the throttle pedal floorboarded: Pull the cable rail HARD towards the end of the cable with one hand, at the same time engage the clevis firmly into the throttle arm grommet. Engaging the clevis automatically locks the tab by pushing it into the block. 5. Pull the block adjustment assembly out of the grommet: Make a mark, on the rail, with a hacksaw blade or knife up against adjustment block. This is the MAX TV mark. 6. Make another mark 5/16" from the max mark out on the rail. (Use a 5/16 pan bolt for a gauge.) This is MIN TV mark. 7. Make another mark midway between MAX mark and MIN mark. This mark is average or MID-mark. 8. Unlock the adjustment tab. Set on MID-mark and lock tab. (Push it down into block.) Install into throttle arm grommet and road test. source (and other apps) = http://www.txchange.com/aodadj.htm _____________________ As a general guideline for adjustment, keep in mind that low TV pressures cause soft, early shifts, and can be corrected by lengthening the linkage rod (or tightening the cable) , while high pressures cause harsh, late shifts and can be corrected by shortening the linkage rod (or loosening the cable). If in doubt, err on the high side of normal, because too much TV pressure is always better than too little. The ideal factory setting for TV pressure in an AOD is such that a TV cable equipped vehicle will have no slack nor any tension in the cable with the throttle fully closed (at curb idle position, engine need not be running). These guidelines may also be used for TV rod configurations. TV pressure may be raised slightly to improve transmission shift feel and to raise part-throttle shift-points. Avoid going too far with TV, as coasting down-shifts will become harsh and "clunky". If doubts prevail, consult a professional for assistance with your TV linkage. source: http://www.baumannengineering.com/tvlnkage.htm
No cable This is the electronic control model , any ideas? Some thing tells me it is a worn out 02 sensor or possibly a thermostat ? Richard
You have an AODE not an AOD. True it is controled by the computer. There is most likley a trans problem. The more you drive it in that condition the quicker a tran shop will be fixing it either way.
No the e40d are a heavier unit......based off of the c6 but with over drive........they later went to a 4r100 basically the same and now they have changed again but I cant remember what the call it now but it's quite the different creature as far as the aode or 4r70w wich ever it is does your od light ever flash:?: you might take it to a local tranny shop and have it scanned.......we do this for free at our shop......just a thought........ you would be suprised at what could cause your problems.......
Thanks everyone !! Problem has been solved with a Oxygen sensor and new thermostat , go figure this new technology boggles the mind ! I spoke to Len Bertrand at Lentech Automatics and he described the problem to me and recommended changing these 2 pieces Thanks again everyone Richard Miller Forever Fords
Yes it's me! I don't fit here much anymore. Gone on to other and bigger things. Just stop by now and then to see what is going on.
