Bucket seat Brace

Ok guys my car was originally a bench seat car, I have switched to bucket seats. Factory bucket seat cars had a "brace" on the floor for more support im guessing, i never took the time to weld these braces in my car for bucket seat support, Just how weak are the floors in these cars??? i don't wanna bend the floor pan if it needs the factory braces....:Handshake

 

I dont know but I guess time will tell.

Before I start messing with these, can somebody here give me a clue, please. Does this have to do with the bell-shaped inserts or the box-shaped pieces.

A picture would be really swell ... maybe I can fab up something.

Mine have both of those pieces too, but I think they are talking about an extra rib built into the floor.

i dont have a brace on mine (tempo buckets) haven't gone trough the floor................yet

i'm going to be bracing it when i put in a safety loop/subframes....one of these days

 

I have had 3 Mavericks ... including my Grabber ... that I added buckets too and never used any extra bracing ... and all held up fine .... Putting a large washer or something under the mounts on each seat would help disperse the load. Pretty sure I didn't do that though ...

 

Mine was a bench car, but where the inner bolts from the buckets go, there are angled braces under the floor. I didn't put them there. They are maybe 4" wide and 3" long. Not a lot, but should keep the buckets from popping through.

Are these a normal part on non-bench cars?

 

If it came with buckets, it would have those welded to the floor, I have a few sets I've cut out of cars over the years, I'll have to find them...

 

Mine was an original bench seat, and had the bench when I got it. It wasn't until I swapped to buckets that I noticed that there was an extra piece of metal under the floor centered right where the bucket seat bolts come through.

That is why I was wondering if that extra piece of reinforcement was added, at least to later model floors.

 

Oh, the piece on the top of the floor is buckets only, underneath there all the same. Bench seat cars will have little dimples on the floors where the hole was drilled for the buckets.

 

Mine had the dimples on the top, but a chunk of metal welded to the bottom, under the floor. Is THAT normal, for a bench seat car?

This is a 74 model, built in late 73. Same model that had the red "history eraser button" under the hood and the "mysterious yellow box" under the dash.
