I need advice on rocker arms I have a 1977 302 engine with oversize pistion, high rise manifold with a 4 brl crb. Right now its awaiting to be dropped into a 1977 Mustang II. OK I know its not a maverick but these rocker arms are driving me crazy.

Anyway I have cragier racing rocker arms that is 7/16 bolts the heads have studs. Short of pulling the heads off and bring them to a maching shop to pull the studs out and retap them for the bolts. I'm trying to find stock if I have to rock arms for 7/16. The ones I found were for 5/8 studs.

What should I do. I'm going to hate myself if I have to pull the heads offs. This engine is very close to being done. Also I'm not going to use it for raceing just street only (muscle car).

I need to know this about rocker arms because I have 2 more engines to rebuilt.

    302 goes in a 70 mav with 351w heads.
    351W goes in a71 bronco.

Are you saying you have 7/16 rocker arms but only 3/8 studs .

You could pull the studs out with the heads on the motor . No problem . You can do this with a bunch of washers , a nut , some grease , and a little horse power in your arms . Drilling and tapping the heads is no problem if you take your time and tape off everthing around each stud , for each stud and be very careful not to get any chips or shavings in the engine . The tough part is getting each hole drilled straight and therefore each stud in straight and parallel with each other. If you've never done any of this kind of work I wouldn't recommend getting on the "learning curve" with this job .

The correct way to do this would be to pull off the heads and sacrifice some gaskets or get different rocker arms .

This is all assuming I understood your problem correctly :(

All right another mustang II owner.. There fun cars as well, I have 2 but I had to park them cause parts were too hard to find at the time, so then I went with a mav, the mav people are much easier to deal with. and much more pleasant.

Thanks for the advice. Since I have never pulled the studs out and retape them and I don't want any more time and money spent pulling the heads off and going to the shop with them. I'm going for the stock value lifters. I gotta get this car going been down to long.

    Hey Mike

I'm pretty sure I have a set or two of stock rocker arms laying around wth fulcrums and everything.
I'll look for them this weekend and if I have some and you want to make the drive up here to Bellingham they are yours.
