i get massive puddles in my trunk in between the quarter panel, i targeted and sealed a few rot holes up in the rear window seal under the molding which was trailing water into the trunk and rotting out the inside of the quarter panel in that little crevice down there; which is almost rotting through the paint just behind my rear wheel. brand new pearl paint too. there has got to be more holes/leaks somewhere in there causing those puddles and rot. i just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem???
It's a common problem. Check your trunk adjustment and trunk weatherstrip. Chances are it's hard and is not sealing the trunk lid. That's been my experience anyway. Pop out the drain plugs to get the water out. If you don't, it'll rust from the inside out (which is what many of our Oklahoma cars do for the same reason).
pardon my ignorance. how do you check your trunk adjustment? is that just looking to make sure the trunk lid lines up properly with the trunk itself or is it more involved than that?
You need to check the alignment front to back/side to side.Make sure the lid sits in the same plane as the surrounding sheet metal...IE: top of quarters level with lid...gap the same on both sides...end of lid matches up to quarter extensions and so on.But rust around the back light(rear glass) and bad weather stripping on back light usually are the culprits for water in the trunk aside from the tail light housing seals.
i found out that my tail light seal was bad, water came dripping down the trunk dripping behind the tail light which was trailing down into the quarter crevice. there was so much mud in my tail light assembly, and a pincher bug. took it all apart and cleaned em up. check your tail lights people!
Seal them up with butyl, dum dum whatever you want to call it. Also the bumper bolts. The quarters on my car had no rust at all. There is however a drain hole punched in the bottom of each quarter. I'm convinced that it saved the quarters. Thanks to the guy who did that many years back. I left the holes when we did the body. Why mess with something that works. These cars leak water all over. Drain holoes are good.
