I cant post a link from from my tablet. Search Doeme's workshop on you tube. I will try to post a link tomorrow. There are 3 parts, disassembly, reassembly and valve body. He goes step by step and gives torque specs as he goes. I learned a lot.
Whew! I am so glad I decided to check my work on the tranny. The pump was not seated properly. Neither was the kick down lever under the valve body. I went ahead and replaced the paper on the pump and tail section. Also replaced the seal on the reverse servo. Im confident everything ok with it and its ready to go back in the car. Here is a link to the you tube videos I watched. I believe this guy is French. You can't see his face through most of it, so I was picturing Sasha Baron Cohen's character in Talladega Nights, lol. One last thing, I though Duff beer was a fictional beer in the Simpsons. This guy has 2 bottles on the bench in the background. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU0yyHJTZWg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1hFeS0ISJM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGXXhE-3TF8
I tend to get obsessed with a project. I need to reign it in a little. Im ready to put the engine and trans back in but I dont have a cherry picker. There is a way I could do it but its a little crazy so Im going to wait until monday or tuesday and rent the correct equipment.
I think that is best. Also, the safest way to go abt it - U've done all this nice work; no need to rush it now. What's a few more days anyway? Weather ain't nice enough to go anywhere - not like ur going to miss going anything..
Rebuilt the carb that was on the 250 when I got it. I drove the car with this carb and it seemed ok, but I only drove it 2 miles. It looked exactly like the one that was on my 200 but I noticed that the one from the 200 was taller than the one one the 250. I guess that makes sense since the 250 is a taller motor, the carb would be shorter. They seem to use the same kick down rod to the tranny, but the section mounted to the head is different. I"m not 100% convinced this is the correct carb for this motor. I bought a rebuild kit for a 72 Maverick with a 250. Everything in the kit was right except the gaskets. I will probably replace it when money is better. That's it, everything is done and ready to be put back in the car. I have a cherry picker reserved for tomorrow morning. I"m super excited to get the drive train back in the car. I will get to see how the spring mod affects the way it sits and rectify it if needed. I should be ready to fire it up this weekend. :bananaman Here is a pic of the freshened up carb. Here is a pic showing the difference in the kickdown linkage. Here is another of the other end.
Was a great day! Picked up an engine hoist this morning and got the engine and trans back in the car. :bananamanEven better than that is the spring mod seems to be perfect. I set a fender in place and even hung the big bumper just to be sure. It lowered it a couple inches I believe. I will know more when I get everything put back, but right now it looks like it will be just right. My first experience with one of these. I'm used to using this 10' high wood frame thing I built few years ago. It was a huge and difficult moving it around but it was so nice to do this in a heated garage instead of outside. Here is the engine and trans mated up for the first time. Don't they make a cute couple? Ready to ease it in my fresh engine bay. I covered everything with big blankets before we lowered it in. Here is how the car sits with the cut springs. Here is the 250 in it's new home. Just in time for my car's 40th Birthday. While dropping the engine in I noticed the shifter linkage was going to need swapped out with the one from the donor car. I can't tell you how many things look the same and turned out to be slightly different. I pulled my linkage off and got the one from the 72. It had a bad bushing at the mounting plate. I removed the bad on and replaced it with mine which was still in very good shape. I hooked up a few things before calling it a day.
Spent a few hours under the car this afternoon getting the trans buttoned up. Installed the correct shift linkage and downshift linkage. Diveshaft, modulator vaccuum line, trans mount and starter. Yesterday when I checked the new stance there was a minor oversight. The rear of the trans was supported by a floor jack. I didnt think it was affecting the ride height at all. Until today after I bolted in the cross memeber and dropped the jack. The car dropped at least another inch. I tossed a fender on it to check and it still seems ok. The front wheels are really toed in/out, not sure of the correct terminology. The upper control arms are level to the ground. It really seems soft and bouncy but the shocks are not hooked up yet. I jacked the front up until the wheels sat right, measured and dropped the jack. Measured again, cutting a full coil dopped it over 3 inches. Still happy with it I think. Can you buy spring rubbers if I want to stiffen it up a little? I will post a couple pics shortly.
Here is a pic with a fender set on the car. The big bumper is off in this pic, I realize it will drop it a tiny bit more. I dont think the rest of what's missing will affect it any. Here is the correct shifter linkage and kickdown linkage installed. Will be back at it tomorrow afternoon
If you need to come back up a bit, Scott Drake makes various sizes of coil spring insulators. Could probably use them to raise it back up anywhere from an 1/8 of an inch to 1 full inch. I don't think you'll know until you roll at least three feet back and forth to settle the suspension. So far, I think its looking GREAT! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-c4dz5415urt/overview/
