brake problem

    It is recommended not to turn drums past .060" from the original diameter.

    a lot of...drum/rotors...have a min. thickness stamped on them, most places won't turn them past that min.
    I don't know if it's a safety thing or any thinner and they will warp/destort...:huh:

    A few years ago I bought a pair of replacement rear drums from CJ Ponyparts. One drum was stamped not to exceed .060" the other was stamped not to exceed .090". :huh:

    Yep, me and the guy at the garage figured the Chinese guy that cast the drums got something upside down, they are on the other side of the planet afterall. LOL Garage guy also said that if the oversize is not specified on the drum it's understood to be able to be taken .090" over.

    I'm getting confused...

    post #1..."On my 70 Mav drum brakes all around, I have replaced shoes, calipers, master cylinder, brake lines."

    post #22..."Got the rotors turned and checked to make sure the shoes were not on backwards."

    where do the rotors and calipers come into this brake system...:huh:

    No wonder you were confused Frank. Maybe I am just getting old or maybe I am subliminally thinking Disk Conversion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    After Franks posts, maybe I better post pics. I think I have the shoes on right. Do you all see anything wrong? The first picture is passenger side and the 2nd is driver side. This is a correction to the post. The labels on the pictures are backwards.

    I don't see any...calipers or rotors, once you install them...all will be good...:thumbs2:

    The shoe with the shorter lining is the primary shoe and should go towards the front of the car.

    So if you mean by " shorter lining " the one with less pad surface area then my passenger side shoes are indeed backwards. please confirm !!!!!!!That may be my problem.

    Yup, is that the side that grabs and locks up? I drove my car for 10 years that way. Both sides were backward, I never knew which way is was gonna yank tbe car. If I was rolling slow in traffic they would lock up. I think you found your problem.
