The brake shoes look correct to me in those pictures.

The shoe with the longest lining (secondary) goes toward the back of the car.
The shorter lining is the primary which goes toward the front.

It will work either way; the most important thing is to make sure whatever you do to one side, of the car, you make it the same on the other side.

Ok I got 2 that say it looks right, 3 that say short shoe to the front, and 2 that say short shoe to the rear. I love expert opinions!!!!!!!:thumbs2::thumbs2::thumbs2:I will try to swap the the passenger side and make the short shoe to the front. Let's have some fun, who's thinks that will fix it? Who thinks I will screw it up more and will back at the board asking the experts again?

they also need to be adjusted correctly. i know this is super obvious but its easy to forget or not do correctly. my 62 falcon runs 4 drums and you can lock it up and it not pull. yes, overall the brakes suck but it tracks straight when you (attempt) to stop.

Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, doesn't the original poster have the short shoe toward the front on both sides?

The short shoe is on the strut side of the car so that's the front. He has them on correctly.

My guess is in adjustment. A single turn off can make one side lock up faster than the other.

Nope. Those shoes are backwards according to what he has labeled Driver side & Passenger side.

The shoe with the shorter lining goes to the front of the car.

I'm not saying that is causing his problem though.

Guys, I owe everyone an apology to this post. I have gotten so confused from reading the responses. I went outside to look at the wheels again just now. Both sides have the short side towards the front. After Crazy Larry mentioned that according to the pictures labels they are backwards. This is where I ask forgiveness for wasting you guys time. I labeled the pictures backward. Mystery solved. The short sides are toward the front. Later today I will put it back together to see if just turning the drums fixed the problem. I also corrected the text on post #25. I cannot relabel the pictures without re uploading them.

Craig is correct. He probably did not look at how I had the pictures labeled. Of course Craig is right most of the time. Thanks guys!

That's funny (LOL!!!) Craig was obviously looking at the car (the location of the strut-rods) and not the titles of the photos.

He's obviously one of those guys who pays attention.

    Good call.
