I have a 1972 ford mustang 302 into my maverick. I bought my frame mounts and my maverick motor mounts but the maverick motor mounts don't fit. I used the mustang motor mounts to mount my engine and it worked but my motor is tilted up from the front for about 1/2" or even 1"? I have trouble with my air cleaner clearance. The hood is too close to the air filter and I had to cut the air filter in half so the hood would shut. Could I use an earlier mustang motor mount or should I just get a different hood and don't mess with it. The car runs great it seams like there is no problem but I will like to fit a bigger breather for my carb. the one I have is like 1" 1/2 tall. Please advise.

Sounds like you have a mix-match somewhere...
66-70 Stang/and other frame stands, or Maverick frame stands will work.
However, the mounts themselves must be Maverick.
    The Stang mounts are taller.
If both are Stang mounts, I don't even believe they will bolt up to the stands.
But if one was Stang, other correct, it seems it might bolt up, but really out of whack.
Some earlier I6 frame stands I have found will accept V8 mounts, but the engine sits tilted. I had this issue with a swapped 302 in a Fairlane.
    Just some thoughts.
    Dave

Edit: Read a little slower this time and see you are using Stang engine mounts...
It's funny the Maverick mounts won't fit...
You are sure they are V8 Maverick stands?

WELL BEFORE I PUT THE STANG MOTOR MOUNTS I HAD THE ORIGINAL MAVERICK V8 MOTOR MOUNTS BUT THESE WOULDN'T BOLT IN PLACE. THE FRAME MOUNTS CAN NOT BE WRONG BECAUSE I BOUGHT THEM FROM AUTOKRAFTERS.

I BELIEVE THAT FORD CHANGED THE 302 BLOCK IN THE EARLY 70'S FOR THE MUSTANG WELL THE MUSTANG IS BIGGER ALL AROUND.

YES THE MUSTANG MOTOR MOUNTS ARE TALLER AND THAT IS WHAT IS AFFECTING ME, I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR A GOOD AND BIG AIR FILTER AND THE 302 REALLY NEEDS TO BREAD.
    MY QUESTION NOW IS:
ALL MUSTANG MOTOR MOUNTS ARE TALLER NO MATER THE YEAR?
I THINK I'M GOING TO HAVE TO BUY A NEW HOOD:cry: AND IF SO I HAVE A PROJECT IN MIND.
    THANKS FOR THE HELP.

The block was not changed in the mount area.
All Stang mounts are same in that era.
Just because you have AK stands doesn't mean they didn't screw them up, or send you the wrong parts.
They can be mounted upside down as well, which will mess up your engine fitment.

after correcting the motor mount issue. also you can go with a thinner air cleaner and use the K&N filter top to compensate, just a thought.

Engine motor mounts can be bought at most parts stores.
Engine frame stands for a V8 can be bought used (check out the classifieds) or bought new from AutoKrafters.

You can get a 4in fiberglass cowl hood for about $500,after that, change carbs, intakes or do anything you want within reason.
