So I've came to the conclusion that I am going to part out my 4 door Mav. It belonged to my father who passed away in 2003. It's been sitting since at my aunt's house since. My mom was going to let the local pick a part take it , but I didn't want to let it go since it had sentimental value. So I started taking automotive classes in college. I took a transmission class and rebuilt the C-4. I also took apart the 250 and got it rebuilt by a machine shop. I started looking more into the Mavericks and when I came across my 73 Grabber I knew I had to buy it and I did. Ever since all my attention shifted towards my grabber. I thought my grabber was in excellent condition until I started finding rust luckily I took care of most of it by now, but it was a lot of work and time consumption. After inspecting my 4 door I noticed how the cowl is rusted out the doors have rust and the rear quarters are also rusted out. I really don't want to waste any of my time putting any more money into a four door that isn't worth it. The 250 is at the machine shop waiting for me to pick it up. Since I have no room to store it in and I still owe him $300. The transmission was rebuilt by me and the shaft spins when I put it in gear and locks when I put it in park so I'm pretty sure it will run just don't know how well it will run. If the transmission doesn't work I have an extra C4 that came off my grabber when I did the T5 swap. If I was to sell the car with the motor in it I wouldn't even get back the money that I put into the motor. So Im thinking of parting it out and finding another mav that's worth working on and put in the 250 in it. What do you guys think I should do? I know that my aunt is getting tired of having the car parked at her house for years so I need to decide something soon. Big dent in the rear Rusted Cowl Me and my little Mav enthusiast in the making
dangit. was going to ask if you were willing to sellt he head off the 250 but reread your post. id be curious to get the heater box and fresh air/floor vents. ?
IMO...I think you would be doing the right and smart thing to part it out. Sentimental value is always hard to part with an item. You could take something off the 4 door and install it in the Maverick you decide to keep such as replacing the Maverick dash script for example so his memory and legacy would always be with you.
Jay (mavdog) called me looking for an I6 motor yesterday. if you want to sell that one try giving Jay a call. the sport mirrors and the 5 lug diff are worth keeping to sell. i think Jerry may want sport mirrors. the 5 lug diff is constantly sought after for use in other hot rods. they are getting hard to find so you should be able to hold out for a good price on that.
PM me If you are interested in completing a car pm me, I acquired a 4 door in very good shape EXCEPT for the motor, it's actually the same color as your car, I have taken some stuff and sold a few items BUT the body is solid, cowl's excellent, interior excellent, has a 4 original hubcaps, etc.
Sorry Just noticed we are a long way apart, probably not feasible no matter how cheap I let you have the car for
I am going to part it out and hopefully try to find a decent shell to thrown in the 250 and C4 in it. If that doesn't go as planned then I will try to sell the motor alone. Now as far sending the car to the junkyard how do I go about that? I remember that Ecology Junkyard offered us $300 for the car years ago. Do they pick up the car or do I have to take it to them? And if I was to remove the front spindles and keep the differential could they still pick up the car or does it have to have wheels to be able to roll? As far as part compatibility. What will work on a 2 door that comes off a 4 door? Fenders,Front/Rear Windshields, Winshield trim, headliner bows, driveshaft?
