does anyone know the name of the correct engine blue for 1972 is there a paint code for it ,or can you just get it in spray can.
You can decode the factory paint code here. You will find the code on your door data sticker located in the driver's door jamb. http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/decode/1972.html
Duplicolor Ford Dark Blue DE1606... The engine color seems to have varied slightly some years but it basically correct for all engines starting 1966 through the '70s...
I see duplicolor also has a blue called old ford blue which is a little lighter then dark blue, not sure which one I like better
The old Ford Blue was for valve covers & air cleaners on certain early/mid '60s engines(thru '65) used on 144, 221, 260, 352, maybe others while the blocks were black... In my opinion a Ford engine painted totally this color looks like ass, could be a Chevy or Chrysler...
Tom and Dave have the right stuff to match stock - DE1606 This picture is my latest engine ................ the early light blue, definitely not stock, but I like it contrasted with the black, nickle and cast colors.
The correct color was more of a medium Ford blue like this shroud I use Corporate Blue when I painted my engine.
