I'm in need of a new rear-end and came across an 8" form a 65 falcon sprint. Seems like this would be an easy swap, how close a fit is this? I can handle cutting and welding new perches if needed, but i'm trying to avoid going as far as shortening axles. please let me know

I don't know about the perches, but the unit is 58" according to the chart, which would make it 3/4" wider on each end then the stock unit at 56 1/2". That is an easy amount of space to deal with. If going with large tires in back you would just need a little more offset to compensate.

Spring perch distant is the same as a Maverick. The axle tubes are smaller

smaller than than the 7"? all I'd need is to change U-bolts anyway right? it sounds like this axle is gonna work fine, I'd better buy it before someone beats me to it.

If there is room in the wheel housing for that extra 3/4 of an inch, the tires might even look better without going to another offset

    70-74 Maverick measures A=3-1/4"...B=5-1/2"...C=1-1/4"
65 Falcon is A=2-5/8"...B=4-3/4 or 5"...C=1-3/8" The Falcon Ubolts changed sizes on 8/25/69

You will need the early shock/spring plate if you change Ubolts. BTW its 7-1/4" not 7"

Agree! All depends on how wide of a tire he wants to go.

Notice the tapered axle tube...that is why you need smaller Ubolts.

picked it up today, looks good. cool guy he was puttin a 9" under the falcon it was stripped down, looked like it had good things in its future considering the spotless superbee he saved from the crusher sitting in the garage! but that wasn't as cool as the original gt-350 on the lift next to it that he was the 2nd owner of. he had to get get a loan to buy it in the 70's for a whopping $5000! he seemed pretty proud of that, but so would I

will 60's mustang plates work? Otherwise I might try modifying the old ones to work. Seems like I could drill new holes and weld the old ones shut.

Mustang plates are more flat than the Maverick plate. This will throw the shock on the wrong angle. Filling and welding may be the only way to go.

I just bought some u bolts, couldnt find 2-5/8" so I got the 2-1/2". I checked if I could still squeeze them over the axle and they're actually kinda big. looks like it needs to be 2-3/8 maybe even 2-1/4". Is a lil slop normal? only other Ubolts I can find at local parts stores are bigger, should I just cinch 'em down and see if the snug up?
on a somewhat related mater, I got the front brakes from the same falcon with the rear. can I use these parts to go 5-lug in front?

the u bolts should be a good fit. i go to a local leaf spring builder and they are able to bend up u bolts to be the correct id. to big of a u bolt wont distribute the clamping force evenly around the top of the tube. to small of a u bolt wont be able to be installed.
