Having trouble finding a new throttle cable. Every parts store around is basically telling me it is a junkyard part. With my 70 having been swapped to a 302 is there any cable that will work with the stock pedal, firewall, and carb (holly 600)? Any mustang or truck cables? Even sourced for later year maverick that came with the 302 and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Contact Summit Racing ask if they have a lokar cable to fit your application you will probably have to buy the bracket that bolts to the base of your carb too

The (69.5)70-72 cable was troublesome. This came in several Ford models in that short timespan. The end near the throttle pedal was crimped on and would break fairly easily. My car was sidelined for three days in the 90s while I turned the entire county upside down and shook it, looking for the right cable. I found three others with problems/repairs before I stumbled on a junkyard car with a recent NOS replacement. (not sure if it was a Mav/Comet at this point). That cable is still in my car today.

If you are at a crossroads here, I would recommend at least swapping over to the 73-77 style Mav/Comet cable and matching throttle pedal. Those look like they would last a lot longer. These can be swapped in by adding one more screw hole at the firewall, because they attach there with two screws instead of just one.... easy. You will want a V8 cable and intake bracket (6 cylinder is a different length). Pedal ought to be the same for all those years. Maybe someone here has one they would part with .... or you could go aftermarket as suggested above. I would definitely change it out somehow.

I bought the Lokar for my 71, no issues whatsoever.

My cable frayed and stuck in the cable sheathing while driving it.....anyhow...I took the cable to a local race store, Pegasus, and they were able to make one, I had them swap over the bracket that holds it to the firewall. Car is a '70, was a 200.
This post may not help at all.

I also bought a Lokar kick down cable for my Dodge Truck when I switched it to a v 8 from a six it works great they are kinda pricey but you won't have to buy another one for a long time
